Nobody is going to want to hear it, and it is taking me some hesitancy in writing it, but perhaps the absolute best thing for our chances of being a Premier League club in the next 3 years is to acknowledge that this is going to be another season of consolidation in the championship, with players settling and gaining experience and saleability. And then sell a couple of them for good fees in January or early next summer allowing for a real attack NEXT season.

I know thats what people wanted this season. But perhaps its just the case that our players need another season to establish themselves to get the credibility to ensure the fees we get are sufficient to bring in the depth and quality we need.

They have earned the right,as you say,I'm not inclined to consider masterstroke:emoticon-0102-bigsm ,but, more sensible business, and for us to end up with a well balanced squad.

In hindsight getting in the play offs last year could have been a hinderance if we’d finished say 12th? Which we weren’t a million miles from to be fair I don’t think there’s the worry amongst the fan base there is right now, the targeting automatics comment also hasn’t helped, with the teams coming down etc I think top ten probably is still a good season given where we’ve been the last few years

Yeh - expectations are higher than they would have been if we'd lost our final 2 games and finished 12th.

That's football and life though. We all say we want long term success but the human nature, especially in something emotive is to want it NOW.

I have no idea and would hate to be in Speakman's mind but it feels to me like he has a long term plan mapped out and absolutely nothing gets in the way of that.

And whilst he's at the club we have to trust he's right.

It's not making money, it's about losing less, it's about being sustainable and I for one am all for it. I know I'm in the minority but I just can't relate to everyone stomping their feet and demanding we spend more for a bit of short term gratification without knowing/understanding the reasons behind the approcah.

What to we reckon? Replacements all ready in the building.

    Pritchard - Dack

    Batth - Trinstis / Steedt

    Gooch - Huggins

Then maybe two CF and the squad is complete until January 24.

Say we get a striker in and we start playing the attractive football again like last year and fall short finishing 8th - 12th yes we will likely lose a big name in the summer window but we then likely have the funds to compete I guess that’s ultimately what this model is, it’s still in its infancy and alien to a lot of us, people (me included) tend to struggle with change and patience is rarely given in football

I’m absolutely fine with couple more years Championship.

It’s a real shame that it’s our own fans trying to paint us as some sort of crisis club, we aren’t.

The on field improvement has been immense. Are we in a little plateau? Maybe. Are we ahead of plan and schedule? Most definitely.

It’s utterly ridiculous the way it’s been painted. Off the field is a mess and we need a striker.

It’s hardly end of days is it?

I think its a case of focusing on not losing money now enables to spend money in 2,3,4,5,6,7 years etc.

People understandably wanting short term success. We all do, we're fans. But I can understand a strategy that is a slow burn, even if its frustrating.

I think that's close to being right. But I think CF and CM are what's needed. As @Prehab26 has said, the winger spot we all want probably wont happen and will end up being Mayenda to cover at striker and on the wing.

We need a player who can sit in the midfield 2. And ideally have done it at a level equivalent to the championship.

He can legally negotiate / sign a deal with any non-English club from 6 months before expiry (so 1st Jan) and any English club from 1 month before expiry (so 1st Jun)

Of course unofficially he may have even already done it.

Could be something in what you say. That brief appearance on the scene of that foreign coach a short while ago has certainly created questions. We know the owners believe in long term plans so would TM be regarded as a part of that?

I'm not defending the club over the lack of the experienced striker, however how much in wages would a good experienced striker cost, possibly the same as we are offering Stewart in his new contract, could we afford both probably not, is this the reason why we haven't.
The other problem I can see is trying to find one that's prepared to come if they may have to play second fiddle to Stewart.
Would Stewart be happy to sign a new contract if this new striker comes in , hits the ground running banging in goals, we wouldn't drop him just so Stewart gets his place back, Stewart could go elsewhere for more money and a guaranteed start.
As I say I'm not defending the club it's their job to get things right, just wondering how people would feel if we brought a PL striker in on loan and Stewart came back in a signed a new contract end of September. Also could the club be looking at getting rid of DB, AP and LG to free wages up for experienced free transfer wages, just a thought

Can players agree a pre-contract with another English club?
The six-month rule when it comes to discussions regarding a future change of scenery relates to teams outside of the country in which the player plies their trade at that time.

players can, therefore, only enter into talks with interested parties outside of England – with the same regulations applying to those in Germany, Spain, Italy etc.

Any player looking to move from one English team to another as a free agent can only open talks after entering the final month of their previous contract – with that effectively delaying discussions until any given season has come to a close.
