Gayle doesn't fit the model, and although I think it's time to tweak it based upon our progress, I can't see any tweak that would make this realistic.

I guess I'm in a minority of one on this matter.:emoticon-0102-bigsm I'm not talking about youth leagues, more about competitive reserve (B) leagues, with promotion and relegation, comprised of teams putting out players who are....a) first team players needing game time following injury recovery,b) squad players needing minutes after spending time on the bench and c) younger players looking to make an impression that they're ready for first team consideration.
Would that not be competitive, beneficial and potentially lucrative?

I can't see any reason it would be anywhere near as competitive as League One / Two? Everyone in it would know the games were effectively meaningless, who would care about a reserve league? It would be nothing like L1/2 imo

Possibly one of the worst tweets I've ever seen and that's saying something.

I could see him being a useful squad player but not at anywhere near that price, maybe 200k. I can see us moving for an experienced striker though, even in terms of setting standards etc in training and mentality. We have this is midfield and defence, with the likes of Evans and Batth.

He's turning 34 in October and Stoke are desperate to get rid. There is absolutely zero chance there'd be a £2m bid for him as Stoke would snap your hands off for £250k

They will be trying for a swap, Gayle for Pritchard. Do one , would be my answer to Stoke.

Thats effectively what the u21 league is, they have promotions n relegations but its not a priority for them

For example if a team gets relegated out of L2 then folk at the club lose their jobs due to decrease in money - that adds extra pressure on the players, you cant replicate that with B leagues.

I do get your point but think the days of competitive reserve leagues are done

    Strange you forgot Amid Diallo.

Anyway the loan players weren't ours.
As said by other posters, if Ballard goes we'll get a good fee and reinvest.
The good news is that the recruitment team aren't gannin anywhere so we will be OK.
Trust them as they seem to know what they are doing

Good point marra....I'll bow to your judgement.... was thinking it might benefit those in the lower end of it.
I've kind of suspended my thoughts of it now,I guess.

    Sounds very impressive:

The 18-year-old winger has made 43 appearances across various age groups within the Academy, scoring nine goals and claiming eight assists. He has also made six Premier League 2 appearances along with two games in the FA Youth Cup.

He was part of the side that saw the Under-18's finish as runners-up in the Under-18's Premier League North, narrowly missing out on the title to Manchester City.

Academy Manager Robin Nicholls said: "Ethan’s final season as a scholar saw him make significant contributions to a U18 team that finished 2nd in the U18 Premier League North. Although injury curtailed the season early for him, the pace and power that he displayed for the majority of the campaign leaves us excited about the potential pathway for him here at the club. We are delighted that he has signed his first professional contract here at SAFC."
