Not at all - Shota was clueless. I just think the manager needs to be involved when a player is signed and not have players he doesn't know landed on him. Agree on Darlow, Connolly looked to have potential, but seems to be made of glass, Ebiowel was garbage and IF we sign Bradley, I will judge him on his performances and not write him off before he has kicked a ball for us
I’m not perplexed by it. I just think it’s a **** signing. People on a message board have differing opinions. Crazy concept I know.
If we can sign a winger or two of the quality we signed in other positions last summer we'll be onto something. I don't think it's acknowledged enough what a glaring weakness in our squad the wings are. Never heard of this latest Turkish chap but if he's a serious talent as suggested and plays on the wing then colour me excited.
If you think we've got any chance in bringing in van Hecke as cover you're delusional and the same goes for Cashin, Andersen and probably Bernard. I would've liked us to keep Bernard, he had his faults, but he will want regular game time as are the others and that makes us a none starter. It's easy to say Sonny's a **** signing but finding somebody with Championship experience who won't cost a fortune and is happy to be a backup isn't easy. I don't think there's anyone realistically better we could sign. We have limited resources and he's cheap cover
we don’t lack experience in the centre back role, we need a back up who can slot in and play the system something by which he can’t do. He’s a no nonsense defender, not a ball player, if he’s called upon, he’d be a liability.
Just the €6.5 million?..I'd be surprised if he spends anywhere near that on his full wish list. No Potter money to piddle up the wall this season.!
We definitely need more players with Championship experience and leaders, it's one of the things we lack. We might have to tweak the system slightly in the games Sonny plays but we've done that before, like figuring out how to play without a striker. We've also got to be honest, Alfie played 40 games last season and I think McLoughlin was available for 40ish too. It doesn't leave a lot of games for Sonny to play and Greaves is still at the club and if he does leave you can look at a ball-playing centre half then as we've got a little more cash. Who else could we realistically sign?
I’m not against the singing on the whole but Rosie doesn’t change playing out from the back. If anything playing without our strikers helped us be more fluid in possession but when the style starts with the defenders it completely takes out from our flow when one of your centre backs can’t do it, let alone when he’d become one of 3 left footers so it’d likely mean one is playing on a weaker side
where he ranks compared to other championship centre halves in passing stats. Again not against the signing but if he’s called upon, like all Luton fans have said, if called upon to play in a possession side. He wouldn’t be suited to it.
Fbref stats website powered by Opta. I’m personally not against the signing just feel it would involve doing something that Rosie isn’t willing to do when Bradley would be called upon.
Ah okay, just couldn't see the headings on the columns. I mean, for a centre half to complete three quarters of their progressive passes is pretty good going, but I imagine he's the kind of player who is brought on when we are ahead and we need a stopper, or when we are playing bigger teams and need somebody to bully the opposition (which, we have to be honest here, very few of our players actually do). The stats on that site show that he is in the 93rd percentile for clearances and 87th percentile for aerial duels; if we don't have players that can do different things to the ones we already have, what's the point? We can't change a game tactically if the players that are brought on to change it are identical in style to the ones they're coming on for.
He can be very safe though, when Macca moved to RCB, he was very conservative and safe in how he played. Yes, we lose the progressive passing but he brings different attributes. Give him a couple of months under Rosie and I think he'll be grand.
That’s why I’m personally not against the signing, but my gut is telling me with Rosie in charge insisting on playing out from the back it could turn him into the new scapegoat if he’s a regular. If he’s used to sit in the middle of our 2 regulars when seeing out a lead, it’ll be an astute bit of business.
