Great post. I have said before, and will say it again, this is the worst government in my lifetime. I do think under Sunak there is a semblance of good sense and decision making returning. I suspect he is a solid PM, but he is tarnished by his party, and the in fighting.
When you listen to Ed Davey talk it is refreshing. He is a man that genuinely cares, is a lifetime politician and has genuine policies around social responsibility and caring. They are my sort of politics.
I was at a meeting last night, led by labour councillors. They took an absolute battering off some of the shouty lot. I was one of a few who stayed on after, by invite, to try to help come up with ideas. I have no problem with that, although I was disappointed in their own lack of ideas and to an extent understanding. I did tell them that, and they took it on the chin. As I spoke to them though I knew they were genuine people, wanting to help. They arent horrible people with malicious intent at all. I just have a different idea on things. Bottom line I am now, along with a few other in the community, roped in to sort the problem, and hopefully the council will jump on board at some point.
I wanted to share something though that really wound me up. It started with a series of updates and talks. Labour councillors, conservatives, independants, selected locals. It wasnt particularly political, no points scoring in the early stages. Then a new labour councillor stood up to talk, not even from the borough, and he spent 2 minutes railing against the tories and these issues they had caused. One old chap, in his 70s, got up and walked out and on his way said I am not here to listen to politics when we have a community crisis. He had been a councillor here for years. It struck me as a new wave of politicians not being able to read the room at all. He was the only speaker who got no applause or recognition. It was a terrible thing to see and hear. Now the boot could just as easily be on the other foot and it be a tory doing it. The point is I think we have created a new generation of so called politicians who know nothing other than pointing, shouting and saying all your fault, without having any idea whatsoever about what to do to improve things. I walked out with a couple of people who are also going to help, and everyone thought the same about his intervention. Worrying times, seen first hand.
