I know nowt.about Mowbray really, I rarely know anything about managers but if he has a reputation for playing with and developing young squads then I can see one big positive the club saw in him.

Especially if AN was wanting to move away form that plan and get experiences older players in.

Burnley in the summer that cant be right? I thought he wasn't here cause he didn't get his bumper licked by Speakman, sorry the contract he wanted?

If it is true it back ups one theory I have, the bloke couldn't wait to get back to the north west!

People saying he’ll never have their support can **** off mind.

    You’d think we’d appointed Hitler.

Hopefully the Stuart Harvey relationship pays dividend as well. Should know the types of signings the manager wants (even if Mowbray doesn’t get final say)

Mowbray will take us to the next level in our progression. I am confident of that. I base that on his achievements to date, the style his teams play, and his ability to really develop young players. Nobody should underestimate his contacts and his reputation in the game. We will see a more attractive style of football than Neil produced, and we will see a more savvy touchline operator when it comes to seeing the game out. He wont be troubled by the size of the club, or the passion of the area, and he certainly wont be fussed if a handful of people dislike his Boro connections. He has far more experience in the game than the last few managers have and that will be a boost across all elements of our club. He will be a great pair of eyes and ears for KLD and Speakman etc to bounce off.

He called us twice in interviews after we beat his team's and it was over 10 years ago.

How is it desperate to appoint an established Championship manager as our manager after we've just got promoted??

The few things I have seen I'm quite positive about him, seems like he could be a good fit to do what we are trying to do consolidate and bring on young players while playing an attacking style of football.

I don’t fully agree that Manning would be a major risk. He’s managed nearly 100 games across two clubs so not coming direct from coaching. You can also clearly see he set MK Dons up well. They were defensively solid and structured as well as good going forward. No reason to believe he couldn’t do that with our squad.
My only concern with Manning would be the personality fit. He’s not as bad as Johnson for coach speak but does like to use some of the terminology. SAFC fans tend to respond better to more direct personalities such as Neill, Allardyce, Reid etc.

I’m not fuming at the thought of Mowbray. Definitely not comparable with appointing Parkinson. I can see why it makes sense, I’m also aware my slightly negative view of him is influenced by the fact I think he’s an absolute tool, which has no bearing on his ability.

Some ridiculous reactions from our fan base tbh. Give the ****er a chance.

We've got a good team and we've made a decent start, no need for all the well over the top negativity at this stage. They're young lads and it could turn quickly if confidence saps away.

Put the silliness to one side and get the **** behind the new manager and the team.

I posted after Neil hadn't quite left that now isn't the time for Sunderland to be experimenting with some kind of lower leauge trendy young coach. I agree with you there.

Tony Mowbray isn't an appointment that makes me feel excited. Tony Mowbray is an appointment that makes me think the club (i.e. KLD, Speakman) have considered what is required to get us established in the Championship, playing the kind of football they want us playing, while bringing on the talented youngsters we have in our squad. That is fine by me.

He's respected by those who know what they're talking about. As, incidentally, is Moyes whose reputation never fell amongst his peers despite what happened with us and what we may think of him. Based on what he's done with West Ham, it seems they were right. Therefore, if they back Mowbray, I'm inclined to believe their opinion more than the opinion of any fans.

It sounds like the club have knew about AN looking elsewhere and had this lined up ready? We have moved quick for him to be at the AOL on Saturday morning.

If it was known AN was touting himself out could that be a reason why he didn't get offered the deal he felt he deserved? The club knew he wanted to away?
