Spot on Nig. Spot on. I, for one, am more delighted to be a Sunderland supporter with our reasonable but not unlimited resources, than to belong to that absolute car crash of a club. Culturally and organisationally they are a mess. They will win things in a few years time with the funds they have but it will be like scoring with the best bird in the brothel coz you could pay more

Exactly mate. You earn respect, you can't buy it ;)

It's really hard to believe that Newcastle are after all these lower league players.

They're either being extremely clever or don't have the budget everyone expected.

A mag at work today wasn't happy reading their transfer rumours. "Why do we want to sign a striker from Burnley?"

It's the problem when you hype up the owners wealth and have half wits shouting about signing Mbappe, Coutinio and so on. It raises expectations. As I said earlier in the thread, if superstar signings don't come in quickly enough (and to add to it, or mediocre signings come in instead), how long before they start grumbling? If the likes of Chris Wood, Dominic Solanke or Lynden Dykes are real targets for them instead of the superstars they want, cue a lot of moaning starting from up the road, even if these are realistic signings to help build thd club up

Their problem is epitomized by the Trippier signing, IMHO. On the face of it, he's a really good signing, being a current England player, experience in Spain, blah, blah...

But why has he come to a club in the middle of a relegation battle? Seems to me that it's win-win for Trippier, but not so hot for the mags. He gets PL wages and exposure which will help with a move if they go down (Wasn't me, guv. They were bottom three when I arrived) and a step up to a better club if they do survive (What a job I did, helping Newcastle stay up).

If they had half a brain they'd let Howe build something from the ground up, like he did at Bournemouth, but with a big head start in terms of cash. But they won't. They all think being the next PSG is in the bag and all they have to do is spunk Johnny Arab's cash up the wall. Bad theory if you ask me and it'll soon be time to lock up your horses if you're anywhere near the Toon on match day...

He’s 32 this year.
A good player don’t get me wrong but if you’re in a relegation scrap I’d have a full back a long way down my list of priorities.
He’s gone for money and who can blame him but the idiots in black and white seem to think it’s due to his love of the jordy nayshun!

Aye there was an article in the Chronicle with quotes from a old teammate of his from his time at Burnley who was a Canadian but had a Nana who was a mag or summit. He said he used to take him to the mags games so he knows what the fans are like so would be why he is signing.

I mean that and the fact he was excited about being jn a relegation fight as his manager said.

Knows what the fans are like??? All the more reason not to go then!
They’re one bad result against Watford from the new owners and little Eddie seeing their true colours.
It’s all very well being all magnanimous, waving flags etc after a 4-0 defeat at home to city and talking of how they support through thick and think when they saw a light at end of tunnel in January. Let’s see how great they’re if Watford beat them and that light begins to flicker in the distance!

I think they were using the 52,000 screaming, passionate Geordies bullshit.

I doubt Solanke would leave Bournemouth, to go to Newcastle, to play second fiddle to Wilson, under Howe again.

Schick would be a fool to leave Leverkusen.

Origi, seems to most likely name...but I doubt Klopp would sell during January, due to having Salah and Mane gone for the month.
