Staveley and Eddie Howe made a fundamental mistake talking about their vision for the club. They may as well have told the existing squad they're out of the club unless they're relegated
That’s one of the things I worry about, it’s not much different to us except we are trying to go the other way, I am sure some of our players know they will be binned.
I think our lads here now have a different attitude, some of our current players promotion maybe a career high, grigg etc with crap attitudes gave been shipped, cracking example is AOB, lads not good enough.....but grigg layed back did one AOB grafted & every chance he gets he puts a shift in, eg cup games. Winchester prob wont be here??? maybe 09??? if we go up & push on beyond next season, its about players....but just as important their attitude & i think our recruitment now will realise this
The difference is we are fighting to win a league and gain promotion and they are fighting relegation. Young players will hope to grow with a team on the up. Old mercenaries will take the money thats thrown around in desperation. We know, we've been there. The mags think we are jealous, I'm certainly not.
Spot on Nig. Spot on. I, for one, am more delighted to be a Sunderland supporter with our reasonable but not unlimited resources, than to belong to that absolute car crash of a club. Culturally and organisationally they are a mess. They will win things in a few years time with the funds they have but it will be like scoring with the best bird in the brothel coz you could pay more
Pretty predictable all this mind. Not made better by a wierd visit to the dressing room, by people the players do not know and who know nothing whatsoever about football. And with the manager absent. It is just not possible to imagine any way such an intervention could help matters.
Im reading the law books now for copyright on forums Smug. If you nick it it would be like going to a brothel pretending you were me and scoring with the best bird due to reputation
Maybe they'll manage to buy trophies, maybe not. But, as has been said on here, Arsenal gave spent £600m in the kast four years or so, Everton over £500m in the last six. Neither are better off, and they both had decent teams to start with. The new rules on sponsorship will probably be policed too, as 18 clubs voted them in. That lot do not have a friend anywhere in world football, though clubs will be happy to take their eyes out for players they no longer want.
It's in a number of papers. It's not disputed, and Howe has said he wasn't there. " All very positive " he said. Well he would wouldn't he!
How can that be ok? I really don’t think howe is Gona recover from this job like, he’s making an absolute fool of himself.
Agreed. I've said it before, all they are looking at is Man City and Chelsea and thinking that the Saudis will pump money and that'll be winning trophies in a couple of seasons, but they don't look at where those clubs were when they were taken over. Both were much further ahead than the Mags currently are. City were an established Upper mid table premier league team with a good youth system already producing players like Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Daniel Sturridge and Nedum Onuha, as well as signing good quality players in their own right like Roque Santa Cruz, Jo, Elano and Martin Petrov. Chelsea in the 10 years before Abramovich took over had won the FA Cup twice, the league Cup, European Cup Winners Cup, European supercup and had signed players like Vialli, Zola, Di Matteo, Le Beouf, Petrescu, Desailly and Lampard. Both clubs were light years ahead of where the Mags are now, both also invested heavily in scouting, coaching and academies as well as buying high class players. It still took both a couple of years before they were able to challenge for honours regularly, and they still had to compete with Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal as established major clubs challenging for honours. Other clubs have have thrown money at it and not been successful, Villa, Leeds, ourselves to a lesser extent. And in the last few years Arsenal have spunked £600 million just to stand still, Everton £500 million going backwards ( and if there wasnt a squeeze on now because of fears ovet FFP punishments you can bet Everton would have spent a lot more in the summer). Even Wolves have spent a good whack, relatively, but seem to have plateaued. They might be successful splashing money about, but it won't be quick and almost certainly will have bumps and set backs on the way, and there really is no certainty that it'll work. And knowing the Mags mentality, are they able to accept set backs and if superstar players and challenging for honours doesn't come quickly enough, how soon before they start grumbling?
