I do think over the last year or so SKP has come across a bit negative about SAFC. Is it because he thought he would get the manager's job and didn't? On the other hand every live talk event I've seen with him he has nothing but great memories of us. He will always be a club legend iny eyes

He's still the only Englishman to win the European Golden Boot

That will always make him
SUPER KEVIN PHILLIPS
He will always be SKP but he's quite negative at the moment. Would still love him at the club in some capacity.

The man is a footballer. He is not a great orator or diplomat. If a journalist wants to pay him a few quid to ask him a few questions about one of of his old clubs what is he to do?
He doesn't owe us anything and he's entitled to his opinion, uninformed though it may be. What has he actually said anyway?
He is a proper footballing legend. I'm not really interested in what comes out of his mouth.

So which is it, interested or not interested?

For the record the interview below is the kind of thing people, like me, are becoming annoyed about. It's ill informed nonsense whereby Phillips appears to think he knows better than the people putting multi-millions into the club and appointing top professional people in positions across the club. Phillips believes we should just be thinking short term and only plan for the Championship if we get there. I'd say that's exactly the kind of kneejerk thinking that's got us where we are now. It's absolute nonsense in my opinion.
............................
There’s a feel good factor around the place, but Phillips says the Black Cats can’t afford to look beyond this season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips said: “Louis-Dreyfus will have a plan of where he wants the club to be in five years but it is very easy to set targets but actions speak louder than words.

“I would not be getting too carried away. A plan is great but it is about the here and now. Sunderland have to create a team that can get out of this league. Worry about the Championship afterwards.

“This is the third season in League One now. You can plan to be back in the Premier League in five years, but any club can say that. The only plan should be one that get’s the club out of League One. Worry about the Championship when you are in it. Take it step by step."

..........................

So he's saying 'actions speak louder than words' which I find quite condescending when KLD has done more, in a few weeks, than Donald did in years. Has Phillips missed what happened in the transfer window with players coming in and out, has he taken notice of the changes in the boardroom. He doesn't seem to have a clue to be honest.

If he thinks we should only think about the present and deliberately make no plans for future signings, players contracts, etc, that's probably why he can't get a job in football. Comments like those above probably mean that job certainly won't be at Sunderland.

He's a legend for his football, I've repeatedly said that.

Marco was a legend and he's talked himself out of it.

Phillips is heading the same imo and I'd rather he didn't ...

... it's not just me saying it.

If SKP ever wanted the job here he needs to cut his teeth somewhere else first and get some invaluable experience in the same that a young player is loaned out to a lower league team.

He is an absolute legend as a player and will always be quite rightly recognised as one of our greatest ever players.

That's where it ends, he comes across as quite dour, maybe he's a realist, but he could be alot more positive when talking about the club.

He's back in town
- maybe be commentating for Sky on Saturday

Some cracking comments from last July....

Oh, and Kev's back...

https://www.footballinsider247.com/...sunderland-starting-xi-after-big-development/

Bailey Wright will struggle to win back his place in the Sunderland starting XI when he returns to full fitness, according to Kevin Phillips.

He's not doing himself any favours is he? Does he even bother to look at our team selections before opening his gob? Yes Kevin, our best defender won't be able to oust Max Power when he comes back FFS.

He'll be straight back in the minute he's fit...

... imagine him sitting on the bench watching O'Nien pining for midfield <doh>
