Under Ross and Parkinson it all seemed amateurish and hopeless ...

... this feels different so I'm officially excited and getting the cans lined up for tonight.
Me too mate.
It feels so different as though they'd actually thought about what they needed to rather than wait till 10.30pm and sign whoever is available.
The fact the fans have picked up on what's been missing from the side and that really looks like where they've needed to strengthen
I also don't think they've done it because that's what the fans have asked for, I think it's the fact the can see what's needed and that's what they've done.
The Embleton situation is a prime example, at first I thought it was a strange one but after thinking about it, at the moment he needs first team football at this level to kick on, we can't guarantee it so let him go to a club where hopefully he'll play nearly every week, come back in the summer a much better player, whereas sitting here on the bench playing 20 minutes every 2 weeks won't really benefit anyone. That alone makes me think they may no what they're doing more than us

Leeds looked a very good side tbf. Plus a couple of their first teamers played and we had a couple of trialists playing.

Picking up on this game, I thought we did well considering all the changes and the long lay off compared to Leeds as has been said played the likes of Helger Costa against us and their team is flying at the top of the league, we were always going to be up against it, the game plan was always going to be damage limitation and but for one lapse we would have got to half time level, and who knows what might have happened. Having said that Leeds were excellent and just like their first team attack with style and pace. The huge plus for me was the performance of Patterson, a lot of people think we should have signed a keeper this window but I would have no hesitation about giving him the gloves tonight.

To be fair to Ross and Parkinson, how much of that was down to Coton and Hill? Ross hadn't been a manager that long when he came here, so didn't have the contacts built up and Parkinson had bumped around the lower leagues working on a shoestring for most of his career. I don't think either were in a strong enough position to push back and challenge for more from Coton and Hill. It was horrible that Coton had a severe heart attack and it might be cruel to say it, but if he couldn't do his job on health grounds, he should have been paid off a lot earlier.

I guess it reflects more on how Donald ran the club and what we're seeing now is the difference between someone with the money and vision to do things and Donald's small time approach.

Well summed up mate, can't argue with any of that.

There's a couple of names, blasts from the past.
Was it lappy that arranged to meet up with someone at a telephone box?
Memory may be playing tricks but iirc it was a cracking thread
Rings a bell. He was loopy but seemed a very clever man, always looked forward to his posts. Bloody long time ago now.
