He must've believed something good was about to happen cos if I spoke to Donald and looked at what's happened at the club in the last few years I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!
Don't forget the arrogance that comes with being a Football Manager. Johnson looks like he has it in bucket loads. For example, taking the team on Sat instead of watching from the stands - massive arrogant statement right there (not saying it's a bad thing). Johnson probably believes he is the man to turn things around. Let's not forget, 4 or 5 managers have failed here in recent years, but the potential remains to be a mi-table PL club. If LJ can achieve something towards that, then he becomes a much bigger draw for clubs in the top league

We need to see if these new people walk the walk. It’s as simple as that. We’ve seen what Donald and Methven are capable of doing a and we know their intention is to spend nothing and maximise profit ahead of winning football games. In time we’ll see if Sartori and Dreyfus aren’t as stupidly arrogant. I do worry that the ego’s of Laurel and Hardy may mean they have some sway and they are still shareholders so have some anyway which is why I want them gone. Hopefully the structure and the new people appointed have some power to make wiser decisions.
Early indications are good. There are 2 massive mistakes SD and CM made:

1. Didn't have the money to run the club once the parachute payments stopped
2. Didn't appoint a "football person" to run the day to day, or at least advise on the day to day

I think we can safely say that JS and KLD have the money and they've appointed an experienced and well respected man to run the club on the football side of things

Put it this way - by setting up the Sporting Director, who in his interview stated a number of times that he has autonomy in his job so IMO will do what's necessary to get this club functioning properly behind the scenes, KLD and JS have done more in a few days than the other 2 members of the ownership group has done in the last 2 years (and probably spent more money doing it!) I have no doubt who will be running the show and it definitely won't be the minority shareholders

Good point! Remember which other managers have had that kind of arrogance and we seemed to have some good times associated with them. Hopefully we can again with this one

Pretty refreshing having a Sporting Director in charge of all things football who in a lot of ways has worked his way up to ultimately do this precise job rather than having a bent football agent doing it

The signs are good .. however ... as I stated let’s see if they walk the walk. Let’s see if it all happens. I’ve heard enough spin and bullshit. I do think there are positive things happen but Methven PR spin is still in town and we all know what ****e he’s come out with then not done.

And actually sitting down, speaking with the coach and between them deciding what kind of player they need and who they might go after rather than the supermarket scatter gun or kid in a sweet shop approach

I agree with you. I don't think any of this has come from the "existing" board but from the new but I do think that LJ did have a discussion about the job with Donald with the final say coming from KLD. That's why I thought the truth was somewhere in between the 2 stories.
Until Donald and KLD sign on the dotted line Donald is still the owner and as such you would expect him to be involved in some capacity. However, we just have to hope that will change when the takeover is complete.

I understand where you're coming from and I am slightly sceptical about the whole thing but for me there are too many signs being put in place to point to a different way of doing things behind the scenes and that's what I am getting excited over. Its not just the last 2 years that they have to remedy but the **** show that saw us constantly fight against relegation and then drop down twice. And for Methven? IMO, if he is going to spin his PR, he'll be told what to say rather than him spouting his usual crap. It's gonna be a long road to get where we want to be but the signs already are that the new shareholders/owner whatever you want to call them do seem that they're determined to make a success of this.

I'd prefer that he had confidence. Confidence is knowing that you can do something and have the wherewithal to back it up.
Arrogance is believing that you can or are entitled to do something with no basis for that belief. Arrogance leads to a downfall.
That's my definition by the way, not the dictionary definition obvs.

TBH I'd hope for the best if the new owner appeared in a clowns outfit driving a clown car and the doors & headlights fell out. I just can't see the point in doing anything else.

We've no idea what will happen with them, the Derby supporters are in the same boat ....

.... que sera and Haway the Lad.

When I was a little kid, I saw Charlie Hurley play. When I was a bigger kid I saw us win the cup.

Throughout that time, and in all of it since most of what we have heard from the club has been either fanciful promise or calculated dissembling

Some honourable exceptions of course, but the point I'm labouring towards is that you can always take a negative, pessimistic view of all things Sunderland. It's understandable, but it's bloody not enjoyable.

So I'd say that there are obviously positive changes being made, and I'm happy with that. I might get happier still, you never know, but it is pointless IMO to always look for the bleak side. It's always there anyway, so look at the other one.

It looks nicer!

RTG man, unbef......glievable! Fri night/Sat morning regarding LJ:
Good appointment
Forward playing young manager
Championship experience
Let’s all get behind him.

Now after it emerges that he may have spoken to Donald:
****e cockney midget
Donald’s puppet
He’s fallen for Donald’s ****e
Should’ve got Cowley

They banging on about Donald keeping out of what’s going on as he only has 15% stake. As far as I know he still owns 74% of the club until a deal is done so he’s bound to be involved. Thick as mince some of that lot.

I admire your positivity. If those two were gone I’d be less cautious but my instincts are to remain cautious while they are hanging around like a bad smell. The fans meeting comments from Donald and the ‘north easterners don’t get business’ comments from Methven have made me really dislike them. As I’ve said though, the signs are positive they just need to have substance.

I despise them mate, I could batter the pair of them, and I'm not joking, but I wont allow their involvement to spoil the enjoyment of what's happening ...

... f××k them, this is my club and I'll be there long after they've gone.

My speculation is that Dreyfus et al pay a smaller amount up front, with agreement to buy remaining shares at higher cost once promotion assured.

Makes sense in that a) the pair of ****ers get a bit more for their pie, which is what they wanted and b) the new owners only pull out more of the asset is more valuable.

Would make sense that this setup was to bridge a gap, rather than long term.
