You don’t know that though. I don’t understand this assumption that appointing Cowley means it was Donald, Methven and Rodwell’s decision? It’s a very realistic possibility that new owners liked a decent manager and wanted to hire him.
Is it Cowley like?

I was told a name that we approached before Gus which was very re-assuring that we even tried for but got turned down by him. Suggests to me the new lot are spearheading the hunt because there's no way Donald would go there (£££).

Also told Gus saying No came as a shock.

No new names given but Cowley/Cook was their hunch, same person told me about Parkinson & McGeady situation so thought I'd pass on
I’d like to know who realistically people think we should go for instead of Cowley? Pearson was never going to work with a SpD and Poyet has fallen at the very last hurdle. Someone like Howe I would have but I’d imagine he’ll be waiting for a better opportunity. Cowley isn’t the big statement we were hoping for but is definitely an improvement on Parkinson. And this appointment does not mean its suddenly Donald and Rodwell picking the manager the fact Poyet wad so close should say it all.
I thought Pearson said in an interview recently that he was ready to return to management and was prepared to work with a DOF/SD, or have the voices in my head made that up. Sure I heard that, possibly during an interview on Sky. Did anyone else pick up on this?

tbh for all the talk of boring football - its only boring when you're not winning.

If Cowley wants to play long ball and wins every game for the rest of the season, we won't find people asking for us to start playing tiki taka
Some still would but would be less vocal. The thing is there is good long ball/ direct football and **** percentage hoof football. As a support we actually quite like the former and don’t tend to take kindly to possession for possessions sake football. Put a quick, dominant centre forward up front that thrives on direct quick football and most of us would love it.

Context important. Look at the teams he achieved those PPG with and in which leagues. Lincoln were punching way above their weight, he carried them to this division. Resources better at Sunderland, that’s a fact. He would get us promoted.

All I'm pointing out is he would have to get a better point per game average than he has ever achieved before at league level to get us promoted. The best he's managed at national league level is 2.15 a game and if he replicated that, we'd end up with 93 points, which should be good enough. For everyone who is championing him,I hope you're all correct in thinking he's going to perform better here than anywhere else in his career, as you must be if you think he can get us promoted.

Can’t understand why we’d go for someone unproven at a higher level than people that’s available such as Pearson. Even Cook has a more proven record at a higher level than Cowley.
He may do ok but he’s managed nothing, nothing, the size of us with our expectations and fishbowl where every tactic, every selection and every decision is dissected to the nth degree.

Nobody has reported that. Sky reported it was because he didn’t want to come to League One. Poyet’s son suggested on twitter that it had nothing to do with money. So there is no indication we aren’t prepared to splash the cash. By all accounts it’s because the new owners want to preserve their DoF model. Which would suggest the opposite of what you are saying and that the takeover very much is happening.
to be fair young poyet is hardly likely to tweet that his old man is a bit of a greedy ****er is he?

I’m not necessarily saying it isn’t happening but it sounds very much like a share re-shuffle now even if it is classed as a takeover. Put it this way why would any billionaire with any ambition let a disaster like rodwell pick the manager? It sounds to me like sartori has tried to bring his mate in , it hasn’t worked so rodwell has took over and we’ve ended up with Cowley. I bet he won’t even be on as much money as parky or ross. Just a cheap option mate. That’s not to say I’m writing him off

Think we're going to have to be patient. Wasnt expecting a quick appointment. Everyone got a bit swept up in the Poyet rumour, whilst I'd have had him I cant say I'm totally gutted that it's not going to be.

Cant see Pearson taking it but hed now be the most ambitious appointment amongst what you could call realistic targets.

Cook and Cowley after that.

what's to say we didn't go for pearson? he was my first choice.

He picked up 50 points in 39 games, so an average of 1.28 points a game. A full season would have given him 59 points, which would have been 13th. Best he's done in the league is 1.85 points a game, so even if he came in and matched that we'd get another 60 points which gives us 84 points, not enough for promotion. I'll back him if he gets it but he's going to have to perform better than he's ever done before to get us up.

2.15 ppg first season with Lincoln so it's not the best he's done.

Edit: Wait you said league, he's not exactly had a chance to do much more than he has in the league.

I am actually all for Cowley I think he is the type of person we need right now. What I don’t like is the impression it gives and that it looks like Rodwell is making the decisions. The sporting director thing has gone quiet and the hope it would be Stefan Schwarz looking unlikely too. It does make you wonder if the takeover has gone south I have to say. The positive messages from the ITKs have completely gone and it’s looking very bleak.
Small piece of advice to the people looking at a takeover would be we need some good news fast and I don’t think Cowley being manager would be the news people need to hear. We need to know the takeover is happening or close and what direction they have planned. Quick.

Because apparently poyet turned us down because of wages so it sounds like we aren’t splashing the cash which is what would be needed to attract a manager who was better than league 1 standard to league 1
We splashed the cash on Grigg, Djilobodger, Rodwell and countless other tarts. That turned out great.

It's about to change mate.

I was knocked back, yesterday, but I'm just waiting for some really exciting news.

A few people believe it but no one is posting.

The end is nigh ...

Cheers for the update. We all need some good news asap
