I reckon the stark truth is that we are a run of the mill league 1 team and maybe the Cowley Brothers are we are at right now. I would think every Sunderland fan and even the new owners could list a few names we would all like, but we are where we are and maybe we should just get behind these guys, if thats what it turns out to be. It could be a lot worse. we could still have Parky, Grayson etc etc

Totally underwhelmed, if this happens should only be to end of season to see where we are.

The fact it seems we haven’t even considered pearson speaks volumes because his cv is miles better than other options. No doubt club again didn’t want to pay backroom staff.

    Yep agreed.

That will be the clearest indication of where we are in terms of whose calling the shots moving forward. If it’s a good Sp D (can’t bring myself to use SD) like Cortese or Schwarz(contacts, acumen and intelligence) then that will be a relief as I’d be staggered if someone competent in that role would come on board if Donald/Methven/Rodwell were to remain in their existing roles.

If its not then we may have a long winter ahead of us and in all likelihood another journeyman appointment and another season in this poxy league.

I disagree, I think being ambitious about the manager is realistic. Not many clubs as big as Sunderland knocking about, same reason a billionaire is taking us over we have premier league potential. Also we should have enough money to offer them a very attractive package, why not. You get what you pay for.

Poyet was a big name and he very nearly signed.

Cowley just smacks of a cheap un ambitious appointment. Was hoping we might get a statement of intent appointment. Cannot understand why we are not trying to get Pearson and SKP now we wont pay Poyet what he wants (apparently)

add "manager" to the long list of appointments still to be made
    Head of Recruitment
    Chief Scout
    Chairman
    Academy Manager
    First Team Manager

Anything I have missed off apart from the obvious shadow that went with Parkinson

Because when Gordon Armstrong, storey, nixon , Phillips etc said not much would be changing. Sadly, it seems not much is.

I’d like to know who realistically people think we should go for instead of Cowley? Pearson was never going to work with a SpD and Poyet has fallen at the very last hurdle. Someone like Howe I would have but I’d imagine he’ll be waiting for a better opportunity. Cowley isn’t the big statement we were hoping for but is definitely an improvement on Parkinson. And this appointment does not mean its suddenly Donald and Rodwell picking the manager the fact Poyet wad so close should say it all.

At the end of the day whoever is appointed will have a remit for promotion. A manager can only make a name for themselves by taking clubs and being successful. We may end up with Cowley or somebody else but we as fans need to back the manager and new owners to the hilt so we can be successful. This commitment goes hand in hand that the owners/directors show the fans the same ambition and respect. My opinion has not changed from what I said a couple of days ago the SPD is the most important appointment as they will set the tone for the rest of the club to follow and work hand in hand with the manager to achieve the clubs ambitions.
We don't need a big name manager we need a manager with a vision and identity which is the same as the owners and the SPD/DOF. Everybody pulling in the same direction is what we need not infighting and backstabbing.
