I believe we haven't got a player to agree a new contract, since we gave Bowen improved terms in 2016, that's a hell of a long time to go without a single player agreeing a new deal. We tried with Bowen, Grosicki and de Wijs last year and we took the piss with Odubajo, Tymon and Clark before that. They can't all be ****s.
It’s not just money though is it (in fact I suspect it was much less about money) Working without a contract, and the protections that gives you from insurance etc, would be very foolish, particularly in an industry which has a much higher rate of injuries than any that we all work in. Stewart decided to do it, for free, others didn’t. They might believe, probably quite rightly, that Stewart has a much better chance of a good contract with someone else, and Stewart may have wanted to show himself out there to get one, whereas they might have felt tyre chance for a new contract elsewhere more affected injury than Stewart thinks his is. Bottom line they were both told they were not wanted next season, then asked if they’d play a few games for free on no contract (or maybe a short term extension) The Allams want to treat the club like a business, so they get people treating the club like a business...
I think you misunderstood, I meant he was straight on a plane as soon as he knew he wouldn't be getting a contract for next season. There was still an offer on the table for him to finish the season if he'd have wanted to.
I think there's a difference between what they were entitled to do and what they morally should have done. People are forgetting that support staff were furloughed throughout the season shut down and some even lost their jobs whilst the players picked up their full salaries, there's also the fact that relegation will potentially lead to more redundancies amongst support staff in the next few months. I'm not sure I could with a clear conscious pocket a few thousand a week whilst my colleagues struggle to pay their bills, then jump ship as soon as the money stops.
Excellent post and clearly states why they should have done it. How can ****s like Irvine read the news and see retired nurses and gp’s go back and work to help the nation and he won’t play football for a few more games. clear conscience some on here applaud the **** em all I’m alright jack mentality.
You're mental. He clearly stated he was happy to play if they wanted him. They didn't want him for the rest of his contract and didn't want to give him a new contract for the following year.
And Irvine would have been paid Sorry mate we agree on most things but this is morally wrong and he’s a **** as is lichaj
As far as what has been reported he wouldn’t have been paid. If that is incorrect in yet to see that. Still a judgement call though even if they would be paid. They want to run the club like a business, so people pay attention to contractual requirements, in a businesslike manner.
