Seeing so much racism being posted by disgruntled labour supporters this morning. Sad, but maybe better off without this type having control.

The UK would still left with 200+ nukes, which by definition is, I suppose, nuclear waste but is a tad more difficult to deal with. You end up with a sort of Fort Knox like storage depot at enormous expense both in the physics and the security side of it (SALT II treaty warheads are stored this way in the US and what was the USSR). They can, of course, be reassembled into usable weapons fairly quickly. They are safer in the subs.'Scrapping' Trident means not replacing it.
Agree totally. Thanks to all those with more knowledge for their enlightenment and for the civility when it could have got out of hand. UTTWell I’ve enjoyed this thread, thanks for leaving it open. It has been good to hear different views, some with great passion which I love to see in people.
It’ll probably be closed down soon and I can’t wait for the thread about the next pope.
Back to reality, a game tonight, come on City!
This just shows the man's arrogance and lack of self-awareness. My centre-left leanings should make me meat and drink for Labour, but I've watched in despair as Corbyn and the cult around him have taken on the party and vilified everyone and anyone who stands to their left. That, to them, makes me a "Red Tory" or a "Blairite" when I'm nothing of the sort, though I do wish the party would take lessons from the good Blair's governments did (Sure Start, increased public spending in health education, social care, tackling the homelessness crisis and so on - stuff any left-wing government would be proud of), and the way in which they won elections. This move by Corbyn can only be because he wants to anoint his successor, more than likely Rebecca Long-Bailey - who'll just offer more of the same.
There are plenty of good Labour politicians left. Kier Starmer is one - a very good debater with real gravitas - but his attachment to a second EU referendum may stymie him. I've always thought that Dan Jarvis would be a bit of a nightmare for the Tories, given his military background and broadly centrist position. Lisa Nandy has been very interesting on Brexit - in that she's listened to people rather than shout at them - and she'd offer a northern voice that Labour needs. But Labour, it seems, will not learn its lesson that electability, pragmatism and compromise are often - in fact almost always - more important than clinging on to principles that the country has rejected time and time again, something the Tories have no problem in working around. Sadly, I can't see Labour taking any important lessons from this defeat. That doesn't mean I want a complete reversion to Blairism, but adapting elements of his approach and applying it to the UK in the 2020s would at least stop the party sleepwalking into another defeat like that it suffered last night.
Thank **** it's Christmas soon![]()
