Be fair Ric. His life must have been hellish at times and even if you totally disagree with him, that must be clear. He has kids and a wife - genuinely must have been hard at times.

Corbyn's plans were for a fairer Britain but he would have not been allowed in the Privvy Council if he was any sort of threat. They planned to also keep Trident too.

Anyway, no point in going through policy again, but I think as one side as clearly won, maybe some reflection and courtesy would go a long way too.

I could not have coped with the death threats to my family, the daily media onslaught and the way he has been painted by said media.

Plenty of others got threats. No one screamed at Corbyn in front of his young kid like they did Rees-Mogg
A lot of the abuse Labour Mps got was from fellow Labour Party members. There are some very unpleasant people in Momentum.

Every social group has some unpleasant people for certain. Momentum are not a violent group at all, they've just been blackened by the media. By and large, they are just young people getting involved in politics but are very organised. I am not a member and I don't think it's very big in Hull - but bigger in big cities. They are seen by some as being quite middle-class- but whether that truly reflects their membership - I am not sure.

Also, Rees Mogg was confronted by "Class War" I think. Who hate Corbyn and are by and large a product of some warped middle-class hubris. Also by some remain types (after the WDA vote) - again, another product of middle-class hubris.

I don't like JRM but would never do that in front of his kids and would condemn it all the way.

There's plenty of unpleasant people in the Tory Party as well.

The disdain for him from within his own party, namely after the exit poll last night was cringeworthy but also indicative of the fact that he was unpopular amongst his own.He had a choice at that point to show at least a modicum of dignity and 'courtesy',he chose not to and showed absolutely no remorse for his actions that led to a proverbial kick in the crotch for him and his ilk.The electorate spoke last night,he never listened and he'll go down in history as the biggest and most undignified Labour party disaster post war.

You earn respect and courtesy in life and had he been dignified enough to at least acknowledge the British public's will,he might have earned respect in some quarters.

I can't respect disrespect.

We'll have to agree to disagree here mate.

For those who understand this waaaay better than me. What effect did the agreement made between the Conservatives and Farage have?...

A similar question a few posts back. How many Labour seats survived because of a split Conservative/Brexit vote? Sorry I'm not about to sift 650 results totting that up.

The agreement highlighted Brexit. The country voted leave. Parliament, along with the speaker, legal challenges and the nine greatest legal minds all caused delays and devilment.

The Lib Dems really took on board the will of the people, and told everyone we will remain. That went well for Jo Swinson.

I will give Corbyn the benefit of the doubt and say against his better judgement he bowed to a second referendum demanded by party remainers. His kiddy in a toy shop spending spree was seen through as who would pay for it.

So 48% of the vote went to Brexit supporting parties. A small crumb for remainers to cling to, and trot out as fact long after this thread is locked down. That 48% has turned a buggers muddle of a messy hung parliament into one of the largest majorities ever.

Weird policy to pay for it, then give it to someone who has said he won't use it in any circumstances.

I thought he said he would keep the nuclear submarines (they are built in Labour voting constituencies after all) but not arm them. No doubt he would have built loads of Spitfires and Hurricanes but not put guns in them if he had been around then.

I understand that Corbyn is attempting to hang on until April!!!!!! He has got to as The Moody Blues would say 'GO NOW' and Labour must come up with a complete change of direction in order to ditch Corbynism. In my humble opinion the Labour party are in danger of splitting right down the middle if Momentum keep control. If that happens they will become nothing much more than a protest party who will be out of power until about 2034!!!!!!!!!!!

Seeing so much racism being posted by disgruntled labour supporters this morning. Sad, but maybe better off without this type having control.

Obviously fake news and photoshopped,it's just Jeremy that's been abused and of course 'Russ' Abbott was 'racially abused' because she can't ever dress herself...

talk in the republic of Islington is that Diana Abbot is ready to step up (when she finds her shoes) and take the party forward.

This just shows the man's arrogance and lack of self-awareness. My centre-left leanings should make me meat and drink for Labour, but I've watched in despair as Corbyn and the cult around him have taken on the party and vilified everyone and anyone who stands to their left. That, to them, makes me a "Red Tory" or a "Blairite" when I'm nothing of the sort, though I do wish the party would take lessons from the good Blair's governments did (Sure Start, increased public spending in health education, social care, tackling the homelessness crisis and so on - stuff any left-wing government would be proud of), and the way in which they won elections. This move by Corbyn can only be because he wants to anoint his successor, more than likely Rebecca Long-Bailey - who'll just offer more of the same.

There are plenty of good Labour politicians left. Kier Starmer is one - a very good debater with real gravitas - but his attachment to a second EU referendum may stymie him. I've always thought that Dan Jarvis would be a bit of a nightmare for the Tories, given his military background and broadly centrist position. Lisa Nandy has been very interesting on Brexit - in that she's listened to people rather than shout at them - and she'd offer a northern voice that Labour needs. But Labour, it seems, will not learn its lesson that electability, pragmatism and compromise are often - in fact almost always - more important than clinging on to principles that the country has rejected time and time again, something the Tories have no problem in working around. Sadly, I can't see Labour taking any important lessons from this defeat. That doesn't mean I want a complete reversion to Blairism, but adapting elements of his approach and applying it to the UK in the 2020s would at least stop the party sleepwalking into another defeat like that it suffered last night.

I genuinely think if Kier Starmer had been labour leader for the last 2 years the election would have been much, much closer.

I see Lee Dixon said he was voting Green and not labour and got thousands of messages calling him “Tory Scum”. Beggars belief.
