If we had 30,000 Americans paying 10$ a game to watch us Id class them as fans....(arse on seat or not) as a club Id be happy with the revenue.. same as 30,000 americans paying to see the Rolling Stones... they dont go to every gihg doesnt make them less of a fan...I enjoy the laughs on RTG but what really pisses me off is the "doesn't even go to matches" brigade.
I live 16,229 km as the crow flies from Sunderland. I've seen them play in person twice (Late 70's and 1990) yet spend over 500 quid a year with the club and still some say that people like me are not real supporters.
you are deemed to be a 'fan' of something if you like it, listen to it, read it, watch it. Im a huge fan of Star Wars (waits for grief.. kids ****e) Ive not once sat on the set of the movie... I must be quite plastic in that respect then
Seriously though, I welcome anyone who would come and watch us, old, new, uber, part timer whatever.... our lass, as Ive mentioned before, is an Arsenal fan by default, shes been to Wembley (twice) to watch us, bought a shirt, gone to games... probably more to do with being a fan of me more than the club like, but nevertheless she was there... and this weekend she wont be... its not just Sunderland fans that seem to get wound up by it.... and only really seems to affect football if Im honest....
