Gobby Savage says he cannot understand why people prefer our model of building towards eventual success instead of Chelsea's method of buying success for the season or two before the wheels come off and they have to begin all over again

It's also worth noting that Gobby Savage cannot understand the colour magenta, the direction north, and the instruction "Shut your moronic gob you preening twat"

Is he Pat Nevin in a blonde wig + welsh accent ?? < The "Chelsea model" >

It's probably not a coincidence that the most staunchly Labour area of the country is Liverpool where nobody buys The Sun.
Problem is that's been exploited for decades by parachuting people into the safe seats, most obviously when James Callahan (not, as widely assumed, Neil Kinnock) dumped Frank Field on the poor people of Birkenhead back in 1979 - although locals spent the next forty years trying to remember what he looked like as he was never seen in Birkenhead apart from in the three weeks before a general election

"On a difficult afternoon for Spurs, Eriksen has been their one beacon of hope, their one shining light. That touch of class he invariably produces." - Alan Smith, choking on his own rage...at least that's why he says he has tears in his eyes
Don't forget the lull in play when they tried to sell him to Real Madrid, happens every game

To underline how wrong whichever of the Times or Torygraph (since the former's site is a pig to use and the latter is hidden behind a paywall) got it here's the comparison from other papers
Guardian - 7
Standard - 7
Daily Wail - 7
Express - 7
Independent - 6
Mirror - 6

He bullied them second half. They couldn't deal with him. I thought he was a 7 or more likely, an 8. He protected Aurier and Foyth in the first half and second half he was a beast.

Looks like someone dozed off at half time watching on TV.
It's exactly that, isn't it? He's described the first half performances and even that's harsh to Sissoko.
There's no way that anyone watched that second half and thought that Witsel or Dortmund were dominant.

It's from The Times and it genuinely looks the ratings and the flavour text were written at half time, bar the minor edits for the goals

Hugo Lloris French, 32 Made several superb saves, especially one that was low to his right from a Zagadou header in the first half 7
Davinson Sánchez Colombian, 22 Conceded a free kick in a dangerous place and miskicked in his penalty area, which almost proved costly 6
Juan Foyth Argentine, 21 A surprise selection. Struggled to adjust to the step up, gave the ball away too often and looked vulnerable 5
Toby Alderweireld Belgian, 29 Experience vital in keeping defence intact in difficult periods, particularly at end of the first half 6
Serge Aurier Ivorian, 26 Coped well with Pulisic and contributed an assist for Vertonghen to justify his selection 7
Moussa Sissoko French, 29 Was often overrun in midfield and was lucky not to be penalised and booked for a foul on Sancho 5
Harry Winks English, 23 Classy in possession with one wonderful through-ball to Son but his shooting needs to improve 6
Jan Vertonghen Belgian, 31 Extraordinary evening in unfamiliar role, creating the first with a superb cross before scoring the second 8
Christian Eriksen Danish, 26 Numerous probing passes and silky touches. Instrumental for two of Tottenham’s goals 8
Son Heung-min South Korean, 26 Worked tirelessly, going close with first-half shot across goal before scoring with a well-taken volley 8
Lucas Moura Brazilian, 26 Went close to opening the scoring early on when he created an opening for himself before volleying wide 6

Total: 72

Substitutes Fernando Llorente (for Moura 84min); Érik Lamela (for Son 90); Victor Wanyama (for Sissoko 90+1). Not used Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Paulo Gazzaniga, Oliver Skipp. Booked Aurier.

Fell asleep at half-time. Watched the highlights on Youtube. Please don't notice.

He was not far off our best player in the first half as well. Only one mistake and that was when he received a pass without a call and lost possession. His 2nd half performance was at his new found best and anything less than an 8 would be a misreprentation.

But why do we ever get surprised by the idiocy of the Press?

Just because we know it's coming doesn't mean we can't be surprised by their new depths of idiocy

...wait, is this the Politics Thread?
