"After this Celtic fans threw cans and bottles and invaded the 'no mans land' piece of terracing separating the rival fans. Only the appearance of Police dogs managed to force them back into their own section. Celtic fans tore up six foot iron railings and used them as missiles"

‘Celtic fans damaged the club's good reputation on a night of violence at Turf Moor.‘

<laugh>

I think just to let his option of a year extension to expire, rather than tell him they are not planning to offer him a new contract is a poor way to handle someone who has been at the club as long as he has. We know this is an Allams way, as Dawson and others last time were kept in the dark and then they suddenly found out the club had triggered their extensions. Poor way to handle things IMO.

I thought him and his agent made it clear he wanted away. Would you offer an expensive contract (we wouldn't get a cheap one) to a long term injured player who wants away?

First I have heard of it. However, certainly since Atkins came in he seems to have been marginalised, certainly not flavour of the month with our Nigel, though maybe Ehab wants him off the wage bill at the end of the season, so Nigel seems no point in playing him unless its necessary.

Maybe something to do with **** performances, too. Probably a combination of everything.

I recall it well BT, I was about to write that I'd celebrate when they've actually gone, on reflection - I don't think I will, the ever increasing bile of 'fan against fan' has finished me, I can't imagine myself sat next to some **** who 'wasn't bothered' about the name change or someone who could celebrate getting cheaper tickets at the expense of kids and OAP's. I may get to the odd game but, my days of spending thousands of pounds, adding to the already thousands of motorway miles and missing family stuff for football matches is LONG gone - the Allams haven't killed it for me, our fans have.
If the Allams succeed in dividing the club even after they've left, that will be very very sad. I'd like to think that if Northern Ireland can manage a Good Friday agreement and South Africa can manage a reconciliation after apartheid, Hull City supporters might be able to forgive each other. LIfe's too short to bear a grudge over choosing a different way to support your football club. That's my hope anyway, but I'm not entirely confident!

i'd only heard it as a rumour, didn't we play them early on that season? Think it may have been the younger Hill brother who told me at the game.

Probably helps when he can just give her his credit card to go off and buy what she likes

Haven't been to Turf Moor since it's been all-seater, but it was class with the big terraces.

I remember as a kid being enthralled with a story about an Anglo-Scottish Cup tie there with Celtic in the 70s - with thousands of Celtic fans ripping the place to shreds.

Yes, 10,000 (mainly drunk) Celtic fans for a two-legged Anglo-Scottish Cup semi-final tie under the floodlights in 1977. Burnley, then in the second tier, beat Celtic home and away to win 3-1 on aggregate.

The Celtic fans, many of whom had been drinking in Burnley since lunchtime, were ripping out the iron railings and using them as spears and some of their fans were attacking the police Alsatians.

Regarding Meyler, I read on some forum or other that Dyche might be interested - the Republic of Ireland connection as we already have Ward, Brady, Walters, Hendrick and Kevin Long in the squad.

They’re Scottish, I don’t know why anyone would expect anything else.

We love Meyler, but he's not a player of the standard Burnley would be looking to sign.
