Nice touch. Funny thing is, you're the one who is deluded by his love for his club, whereas i'm blinded by the truth as well as having love for the club.

Yep the contract that he wanted to stay at the football club. So you are aware of it. So which part of he wanted to stay don't you understand again. The fact the club didn't want him to stay for as long as he wanted is THEIR decision. Im not saying I would have gave him a 3 year extension either. I actually agree with that stance. However, I never would have sold him for such a measly amount. Whats the point. But what is clear is he wanted to stay at NUFC given the choice, the choice was removed by NUFC as they were not willing to meet his wishes, they then sold him. He could have stayed for another year, or 2 more years. Neither happened. Hes gone.

Oh thats right I forgot we are a league 2 club who cant afford a pot to piss in. My mistake. We cant afford to pay him a years wage, but we can afford to let a £3-£5mil player leave for free.
Yes, Joey Barton is a professional football player. You think we have Sunday league players in our team? He has a family and a future beyond football to think about. He wants his relatively short career to be sorted so he can focus on his football. Just like every other football player playing the game right now.

Get ur heads out of your biassed NUFC asses, and look at footballers and the club for what it is. As if you weren't a fan. You might get some perspective.

That's not really the point or the way it works though is it. Honestly people need to get over the money these guys earn. That's football. Its like when people say "well he's only been fined £25K, whats that to him" Its the ****ing same as it is to me and you, 25 ****ing grand!!! I'm not bothered what you earn or what you're worth, £25,000 is a lot of money. And the 10m plus Barton could lose by getting a career threatening injury is a hell of a lot of money. We also don't know what committments players make in terms of their money, they may need to earn that money to keep pace with investments or other projects/businesses they've got involved in.

So yes footballers however rich have to secure their future and want to earn as much money as possible from their chosen career. Its not their fault none of us worked to make ourselves good enough to earn money from the game.

    Spot on.

Some people just dont have the capabilities to look beyond and see this point entirely. All they see is the player on the pitch. They have lives, families, commitments, investments, etc etc.

Who are we to tell a professional to accept risking his financial future for the sake of pleasing them, so they can turn on him when he makes a mistake anyway?

Im sorry but we are NUFC we arent Notts County. We may look similar and have the same nickname but the numbers you speak aren't actually that serious to us. After all, how can we afford to release a £3-£5mil player for free if we cant even afford a years worth in wages? We would have to pay him off anyway if we just released him right now on compensation.

Michael Ashley is a billionaire who can afford to lose £1million on a casino table in 20 mins and have a laugh about it.

Dont be taken in by the penny pinching clowns.

This situation has been inevitable ever since he was put on the transfer list and even more so since it was stated he could leave on a free. What on earth is all the fuss about!?

Anybody with an ounce of sense would know that at some stage a club would show enough interest for talks to start. Barton will leave or he won't but will be leaving within the year anyway. We have brought in midfielders so it may be time for one of them to step up to the plate and take his place. You never know he may even be replaced with somebody good.

Personally I hope he goes. Don't like the bloke or his attitude. The earlier poster who got the out of order outburst from Tash was spot on. Overall Barton is a liability to this club. I'm looking forward to the day when I can see NUFC mentioned in the media without it being about what Barton has done next. As a player he is replacable and the club could certainly do without all the negative media baggage that he brings.

I agree that he would be made for life if he was to retire now, but putting yourself in his shoes (boots!), why should you finish out the season with a club that seems not to want you whilst risking an injury that could end your career when you could move elsewhere on similar money and protect your next 3//4 years income (a hefty amount in his case)... There is loyalty and love for a club but it has to end somewhere...

To post 384... I'm noew on here and didn't quote you!

Your support to the Ashley regime is unflappable.

Read my following post about that being the same amount for Nolan's contract, and even more if we'd given Carroll the further contract he wanted.... Plus when we're a club making a loss that is trying to turn itself around a make a profit then all these millions that "aren't so serious to us" become pretty serious.

For the "Mike Ashley is a billionaire" argument, his worth is due to his stake in NUFC as a business, in Sports Direct as a business and his newer clothes shops.... He doesn't have £1bn+ sitting is his bank account.

I know this whole discussion has gone way off topic so to bring it back, Barton talking to clubs has been coming ever since he was put on the transfer list. I reckon he was half expecting one of the top half teams to come in for him at least hence the talk about not going unless it's for a big 4 club etc... But I can't blame him for listening to offers for all of the reasons Warm Pouch mentions above (and that I can't be arsed to write 'cos it's finally time for me to leave the office :D )

And your ability to type so well with your head stuck so far up your arse is amazing!

Actually I judge each situation on its merits. Barton is a good footballer but as an ambassador for this club he is an embarrassment. I have felt that for longer than Ashley has given any justifiable reason to be hated by the fans.

You should try and look past your hatred of Ashley and judge things the same way. You might find it refreshing. You may also stop talking ****e so much.

This whole situation is a piss take (not the Lotus thing, which obviously is), Barton is crucial to our team and we've effectively released him. If he's so destabilising why is he playing games? Why is he training with the lads? Just the latest chapter in the soap opera, I'm ****ing sick of it, why can't we have a chairman with a ****ing brain cell?

So do I. Losing your most influential player when he wants to stay is ridiculous.

I dont mind him being in the back pages this season. Thanks to his attitude and behaviour we have a creditable point against Arsenal. He actually behaved admirably against Scum, helped us get a win.

Chelsea stood by Terry and Cole. Man U stood by Rooney. Barton's behaviour over the past year has been brilliant. He is a different man to the one I despised for years.

I may dislike Ash a lot, I admit. But I give credit where its due.

It's been too long. There's been some transfer activity as well - Senna in a Renault and Barton in a Lotus apparently. :D
