the whole comment about not thinking the difference between 80k or 35k would matter to somebody. thats an insane statement to make i LOVE the club but i would just in a heart beat for that difference in wages.

    I would say that:
Carroll didn't want to stay for the amount of money he was earning
Nolan didn't want to stay if he wasn't going to get first team football (even though he was superseeded)
And Barton is complicated, as he is transfer listed because the club see him as a destablising force (i guess), but he is essentially the same as carroll - he wants to stay, but for the right price

if they wanted to stay they would be happy with any contract? for andy carroll he asked for a pay rise because Liverpool were offering more money so it wasn't a case of if he wanted to stay it was who ever offered the most money, Barton could stay for this year if he wanted to stay?

Turns out Barton has been in talks with Tony Fernandes for a few days now and it will be announced later today that Joey will be driving for Team Lotus this weekend <ok>

Not going to get involved with this whole discussion, but want to point out that to the club that one year is important to the club to the tune of £50k x 52 weeks plus any bonuses.....

Yes, exactly, great business for the owner of the club, however, very bad for the team and the fans losing such an important player and still no replacement! The decision to cash in was good for the clubs profits in the short term at the detriment of the team!

The ambition of this club is none existant these days and thats what I find hardest to take!

Also the same if you consider the extra year on Nolan's desired contract.... Minimum of £5m extra wages cost which the board obviously didn't want to pay. Add the extra Carroll desired wages and you can see the snowball effect giving one player an extended contract can do.

Yeah, you're right. No point in me wasting my time with a deluded fool like yourself.

The contract he rejected. As reported here, here, and here.

In Barton's case that extra year is going to be about £50k a week, plus performance bonuses. For a club that's not too rich, that's quite a lot of money. Especially for a player who'd be on the wrong side of 30, spent time in jail not too long ago, and causes a lot of controversy on and off the pitch. If he wanted to stay that much he would've signed the deal and worked on a new one a year or so down the line.
Joey Barton, professional? You're having a laugh. He's about as far from professional as you can get, and that's a large part of why I like the guy.

But you didn't highlight that bit...

Anyway. Ok, if you don't agree with that then fine. But I honestly think that the benefits of playing for Newcastle would outweigh playing for any other club.

There is more to life than money - especially if you make £35,000 a week.

Quaility of life then focuses on things like doing whatever you want - like playing for your boyhood club...

I also think some of this down to Mehdi Abeid, without a doubt he was signed as one for the future but his performances in pre-season and for the reserves have mean't the coaching staff have had a re-think and now consider him ready for some 1st team games.

I hope that this is a load of press rubbish like the rest of us but it looks likely that Joey is at least talking to QPR. I think people need to look at both sides of the argument. It's seems likely the Barton wants to stay at Newcastle but the powers above (i.e. Ashley and Co.) don't want that to happen. Probably wage related no doubt!

Joey is going to take some flack regardless of his decision whether it be to stay, leave to go to QPR or leave for any other club that comes in for him. In an ideal world he would probably want a long term contract with us. We are (despite the rumblings of some fans) moving in the right direction at least with our transfer policy, although we must splash out on a new left back and striker (but that topic has been done to death). But, if not offered a contract how can Joey stay. He could play out the season but then he is one bad injury from never getting a contract again, at least if he signs for another club (if we don't sign him up) he guarentees himself the peace of mind that he will have a career for several years!

He may love our club (if his words are to be believed) but he'd be a bloody idiot to turn down a 3/4 yr contract elsewhere on decent money when we refuse to give him any security over his future (in fact we have made it obvious that we won't offer him any long term stablity).

I, for one, hope that Ashley pulls his head out of the sand and realises that if we hold onto or best players and strengthen in areas that need strengthening then we are not far away from a solid top half team, challenging for the elusive 7th place and possible European football (I know it seems far fetched but look at the difference between the mid table clubs... it's not much)...

The frustrating life of an NUFCc fan...

Tonight I might dream he was replaced by Krancjar. Then all would be good.

This is one of the key elements I think a lot of fans are missing when they say "if he really wanted to stay he'd just see out the year" and thus deciding he is a money grabbing toad. He isn't he's just protecting his future because he has been told he's not wanted by his current club.

I'd love Abeid to get game time. He looks pure class and would explain why he got number 13 too!
