I think we should have held out for more too, but I don't think you can argue that being a PL club vs being a relegated club doesn't change the amount a club is willing to hold out for.
I heard the same thing. Apprentely Shakespeare said in Portugal they offered 10mil then boy wonder said no 17mil they snapped our hands off and where expecting to pay 25mil.
I couldn't either. Could have got double what we got for him. Criminally cheap. He's currently one of if not the best centre half in the PL.
They've got a decent record of picking up talent from Scotland and Ireland, we should be matching that at least.
Swansea and Brighton showing an interest in £8m rated Bowen according to SKY. ****ing hope not. The one bright spot in a horrible season so far.
I aren't sure he'll go back to Italy only because of financial reasons. He'll want probably £60k pw, the Italian league doesn't have a lot of money (minus the big boys and he's not good enough for them). Wouldn't surprise me if he stayed in the Championship. I'd happily give him £60k a week even if it meant losing Dawson and McGregor & Meyler's wages to fund it.
There's players ahead of Dawson, McGregor and Meyler we need to lose first. Henriksen for one. He's playing potentially the same position as Toral and Irvine and frankly he's miles behind them in terms of how he's adapted to the Championship. This is not a criticism, I think he'd be better off getting his confidence back in a team and league that suits his style of play. Marshall/McGregor - Personally if we lose one, I'd rather it was Marshall who hasn't done anything to win over the majority of City fans. The issue with McGregor is the length of contract he has left, not sure if he's still one with a year extension option? I'd much rather it was McGregor with Mannion as back up for what is definitely a relegation battle. Grosicki if we need to sell to buy, I'd be happy for him to go, despite his decent contribution so far. What's his release £9m? That could get us 3 or 4 reinforcements which are more important. Evandro I'd happily see go - Richie Appleby MK2. Then there's players like Keane/Weir who I can't see making an impact any time soon. Keane returning from long term injury and Weir out long term injured.
It's not a case of wanting other players to go first, but the three I mentioned are all out of contract in the summer and on high wages, I'd much rather see them leave and we use that money to keep Abel. He's so much harder to replace. In our position he's impossible to replace, the others aren't. Nobody will come in for Marshall. I can't understand anyone wanting Grosicki to leave, he's been just as productive than Jarrod has.
How is Bowen worth the same as Assombalonga? Bowen has half a season of first team football under his belt. Assombalonga has twice proven he can bang goals in at a rate of 1 in 2 at this level, plus two years of doing it in League One. Bowen has had a great season but lets not get carried away. If he is doing it this time next year he could be worth 15m, but not now.
Before this year Assombalonga had never scored more than 15 in a season. When you buy a young kid you're paying for potential and he has the ability to be far better than Britt. That's why he's at the very least worth the same. Let's also not forget that Bowen's not a striker and has scored all the goals from out wide. If Tammy Abraham was sold by Chelsea at the start of the season. How much would he have gone for?
We are Hull City not Chelsea, you can't compare, you have to compare like for like. We are a Championship club. Not a chance would we get £15m for Bowen, not a chance. I fully understand you buy potential with youth, but Assombalonga scored 20 odd for Peterborough and had injuries in the other two season in the championship so you can't paint a picture to show him badly. But he averaged 1 in 2. Football is all about opinions and I can see where you are coming from, but if we got 17m for Maguire, we won't get 15m for Bowen.
Britt scored goals in L1 with Peterborough yes, but never more than 15 in the championship. He's also struggled to play more than 30/35 games a season. Even this year Bowen's goals to minutes ratio is better than Britt's. He's definitely worth as much as Assombalonga if not more as he will be a far better player. There aren't many kids that in their first full season in the Championship scored so many goals. He's going to be a really really good player and that's why he's worth the money. You also can't compare defenders with forwards and we should've had more for Maguire and he was into the last year of his deal. It's completely different
Who would buy him ept? He'd have to think very carefully where he goes. He definitely needs a full season here for his development.
