I would actually like us to be the first to take a stand, even if it costs us money. The way this has happened, I'd back the board if they pushed this hard. Let's make an example to all football, even if VVD tries to do something legal.

We should do this for football. Just put a statement out that says Virgil is not being sold this season. I'd even say they should add something that says they are prepared to give him as much time as he needs to come round, knowing he might not.

Tell him it's a no. Make the stand. Forget the money. Forget the value. Drag every possible organisation into it. Expose football for what it has become. Make the PFA and Premier League squirm. Drag them all out onto the streets.

Just say "No."

That would be great to see tbh. Not happening though unfortunately.

I disagree, you can't say for certain it's best because we haven't tried the other way.

In fact the closest we have had to this is with Morgan and that definitely worked out for us.

I maintain that there's 2 simple facts we can take from this saga:

1) If we can't stand firm then we likely NEVER will.

2) We (the board) are gonna like look right muppets if we sell to Pool after the whole tapping up bollocks.

The fans won't be happy if we try and just 'get by' on the replacement either.

You're assuming we'll even try to get a replacement TLL. Wouldn't be surprised with the current board if they just announced how great it is that Florin is back fit and well. If I'd bought a ST, I'd be pretty pissed right now.

When I buy my ST it isn't because I expect my Club to be Champions or Cup Winners, that would be a nice bonus but being realistic it ain't going to happen. I buy it to support my local team and enjoy what they dish up. 60 years plus has taught me that it is never going to be an easy ride, the roller coaster has its ups and downs which I accept and move on whatever happens.
No ambition? No just a different attitude, never been a glory hunter despite having the best day of my life on May 1st 1976!
As for the present, yes disappointed about the lack of any transfer action and I don't expect anything special this Season unless we strengthen. Time will tell, I won't lose any sleep over it, well not much anyhow.

Yeah, cos it was pretty **** when the board didn't replace Lallana, Lovren, Shaw, Lambert etc etc.

Fair enough Don. We all see it differently.

So this latest snippet has come from 'Sky sources'. Nothing to do with them trying to get more scousers to waste their cash on Sky Bet I'm sure. Nothing has changed according to the article.

SSN still repeating the same old dross, Saints should say, that every time it happens the selling price goes up another Million quid.

Originally it was a source 'close to the player'

His agent issuing a come and get me.

Maybe, but it would also be so easy to make this stuff up. The actual content is nothing new in respect of either of the clubs stance.

I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that it's true though. Could be right about clubs stance but Virgil/his agent are definitely beginning to turn the screw.

So the current scenario it seems is:

Saints saying they don't want to sell and VVD training alone
Liverpool saying they will only bid if Saints encourage it due to a broken relationship between the 2

The only way it seems to me that VVD goes to Liverpool is if another team comes in and bids and Saints accept it and Liverpool match their bid, which Saints then might not accept anyway. Or VVD makes it clear he is going full on strike mode and won't play again Saints regardless of the window being closed.

VvD is a greedy twat. Just put in a transfer request and save us a few million. How the hell do you think you deserve a loyalty bonus? Just the lowest of the low.
