    So his agent then.

I think we're giving up too easily.

He was happy enough to sign a 6 year deal and take no doubt a huge payrise.

Make him honour a 3rd of it. I think it's highly doubtful if the window shut then he would sulk all season.

Everyone outside of Saints, especially the van dijk camp I imagine, has expected him to be a Liverpool player by the end of the window... this is not news and changes nothing.

    He wants out.
    Liverpool want him.
    We don't want to sell.

As I say, nothing has changed.

Won't be what? Honouring a 3rd of it?

No I very much doubt he will be, I'm not for a second suggesting what I'm saying will happen, I've been saying since about November he will go this Summer. I don't think we'll get £70m though... 55+ add ons making about 65ish.

My point is we COULD make him do that if we wanted to.

On another note, if he continues to refuse to play can we stop paying him legally?

I doubt it tbh but interested if anyone knows?

But we won't. Unfortunately our previous transfer sales and always selling will always bite us on the arse.

It's not just that, it's just players have so much power these days clubs haven't got a chance. That and how we get most of our players is basically being the club to showcase their talents and step up after a few years.

I know, I don't expect us to, but we could if we want to and arguably will never have a better opportunity to do so.

Do you think that we will ever make a stand if we don't here?

And do you think there is any way of not looking stupid if we still sell to Liverpool?

I agree, Liverpool & VVD have blown this transfer by acting unprofessionally and being even more unprofessional shouldn't help them get what they want.
Someone needs to make Virgil realize that it's Liverpool who have ****ed this up.

As far as tantrums go. Pellegrino sent him to his room. At the moment he is at that stage of banging doors and stomping his feet, eventually he'll go quiet and start to reflect more deeply about the reality of the situation.

Imho, the only way it will stop is if we get new mega rich owners, or start finishing in the top 4?

I hope if we do sell him he doesn't go to Liverpool. However if we did I don't think we will look stupid.

Liverpool have turned into a joke club. The legendary team of the 80s have lost their way.

Their transfer record is appalling, their development of players is no better than hartlepool, no imagination, no direction. If they want to pay us a large profit on another player it's them that look stupid.

    Joke club.

Being in the Champions League would certainly help but even then we'd still see this happening to our best players.

I would actually like us to be the first to take a stand, even if it costs us money. The way this has happened, I'd back the board if they pushed this hard. Let's make an example to all football, even if VVD tries to do something legal.

We should do this for football. Just put a statement out that says Virgil is not being sold this season. I'd even say they should add something that says they are prepared to give him as much time as he needs to come round, knowing he might not.

Tell him it's a no. Make the stand. Forget the money. Forget the value. Drag every possible organisation into it. Expose football for what it has become. Make the PFA and Premier League squirm. Drag them all out onto the streets.

    Just say "No."
