We get derisory offers for players every day of the transfer window, the difference is these bids have been made public.

    I think that's a bit hyperbolic.

We may get enquiries every day but that's not the same thing as formal bids.

Not sure what my distance has to do with it unless you have someone at the club who you catch up for coffee with on a daily basis updating you on all of the derisory bids we're apparently receiving.

Yep, £12m for Long...I though we did well there. Would he be worth that now? I'd say not

Bummers used to work in football so I don't think it's hard to believe him when he says that there are a lot of bids flying around that the public don't hear about.

As for West Ham and Snodgrass, I just don't get the problem. If the bids are too low, so what? We've turned them down. From their point of view he's the best player at a basketcase club. It's logical for them to think that he might want out and that they can get him relatively cheap. It's only a couple of million less than we paid for him anyway.

We'd complain if City just flew in with overpriced offers for players without trying to get the price down first. I don't get why we're meant to be angry at other clubs trying to get the best deal as we'd expect ours to. Makes us look a bit whiny I think.

Because West Ham are doing it to numerous clubs in an attempt to turn players' heads. We aren't the only set of fans they've pissed off so not quite sure why you're trying to put down our supporter base. Pretty much everyone thinks they're a laughing stock.

And if we really were receiving daily 'derisory' bids, we'd either put none or all of them out into the press, to either jack up a player's price in a bidding war, or ignore entirely. I have no idea why we'd publicly reject some but not others which is why I'm not sure if Bummers is confusing official inquiries with formal bids. Being in Australia though, clearly I have everything upside down. :emoticon-0112-wonde

I think Bummers would understand how this works better than almost anyone on here.

I don't think that we're the ones talking about these offers. Seems like West Ham are for some reason doing all their business in public. I can understand why that might annoy the clubs they're trying to buy from, but really if they want to unsettle a player they can do that in private. Look at Payet and Marseille.

Payet wasn't unsettled by Marseille, his family has moved back to France and he wants to go with them.

I understand clubs putting lower bids in for players, as you aren't going to go to a club and say we can afford £12m for a player, how much do you want?

Of course they are going to start lower and work there way towards the target or meet in the middle with the club. My issue is the fact someone keeps leaking the offers. Now I am sure it isn't anyone at City's end as why would we want speculation out around one of our players? The only thing this could do is increase interest from other clubs and further unsettle Snodgrass.

I just find it puzzling that West Ham are fuming with Payet and him demanding a move, yet they continue to make public low bids for a number of players. It's too much of a coincidence that bids for Hogan, Snodgrass and Defoe have all become public, and all of them had a ridiculously low starting price.

Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus has now received international clearance and could make his debut for Man City against Spurs at the weekend (fee £27m).

West Ham are in advanced talks to sign Southampton defender Jose Fonte (presumably they've finally made a decent offer).

Aston Villa are believed to have had £6m bid for Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes rejected.

Everton have rejected a bid from Italian side AC Milan to take winger Gerard Deulofeu on loan.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has signed a one-year contract extension.

Liverpool have rejected a loan bid from Southampton for defender Mamadou Sakho.

Doesn't the saying go "if you're not embarrassed by your first offer, you've offered too much?"

A reporter on the Burnley Express pointed out to me yesterday, that their opening bid for Hendrick was £3m, but they ended up paying over £10m for him.
