Agreed. To say that it would be any different is wrong. However to think that the enjoyed benefits for business won't be hit and that rather than grudging partners that the cac and dax won't go for londonderry jugular is equally wrong. Irrespective of entende cordial when it comes to business the knives will be sharp... we can now only sit to the side hoping to compete rather than being in using the mechanisms to protect our interests.
Let's hope you are right but I am afraid it will happen. Of course we won't be enemies. We'll be on good terms. But it is a huge commitment to take on passport control in Calais. The daily lives of their residents have been and are disrupted by the sheer number of people wanting to cross the channel. And UK border control is a national uk responsibility. Why would they take it on if we are no longer EU members?
The Leave mentality is we're only voting against all the parts of the EU we don't like. We still get to keep all the benefits we just don't need to pay for them any more.
It is interesting that the Leavers have been and are so optimistic reflecting the message given by the lead Brexiteers. The likes of Boris Gove ids Patel have blatantly lied and glossed over the negatives of Brexit. The Leave camp have been dismissive of every single warning given by experts. There were warnings that there will be short term economic disruption, and also that there will be an incentive for the EU to make the divorce as unamicable as possible. Not that they suddenly hate the Brits but they simply HAVE to discourage others. All we had were screams of scaremongering. No plans from the Brexiteers on how to deal with the eu post Brexit. We are currently rudderless, with a prime minister whose power is draining away by the hour. Ridiculous but lots of the leave voters are admitting they wanted to give the government a kicking rather than make a decision about the EU. They just never thought we would be out like we are. Man interviewed: " I voted leave. I woke up Friday morning and realised we were out of the EU. I was very scared as I didn't expect this." Lots of interviews like this. Pointless. If every person who voted remain signed it then it would still be pointless. The decision is taken. 72% turned up which is at least 10% shy of the numbers there should have been given the size of decision.
