But do they not think or expect that any Hamas fighters would also just leave as well? It's not as if they wear any distinctive clothing that sets them apart.

Nobody in government seem to have any sympathy for the ordinary Palestinian people who have done nothing wrong.

We were taught, in state schools and church, that annihilating indigenous populations and forcing them to change their language, culture and religion was the God given right of a country that knew better than everyone else.

it would be an extremely brave or foolhardy Palestinian who dared finger a Hamas member to the Israelis, Rooch. The retribution on him/her and their family I dare t even think about.
Hamas are Nazis, pure and simple. They take their cue from the Palestinian leader during WW11, who was a close collaborator with Hitler, and spewed out the same extreme anti semitism there for years, poisoning and radicalising generations. The awful and inconvenient fact is that Hamas were elected, to great fanfare, and never made any secret of their vision; destroy the Jews. It's still their vision.
Why, no one asks, do Egypt, who share a border with Gaza, not welcome Palestinians in numbers, now, or at other similar times? Their border is bolted shut.

Gaza is not occupied. Israel left 18 years ago, and they left a relatively healthy economy. All the farms and businesses left were destroyed as they were " tainted" by Jews. It was called " Land for Peace"!
Gaza sits on a huge natural aquifer, but in eighteen years has made no effort to access this water. Israel has always pumped water there and paid for it, even as the rockets have descended on them, many hundreds of them over the years. That's where the money has gone. Ditto power.
No idea how this will end, or when, but when you see babies being slaughtered, old women butchered, women raped in public, bodies paraded in the streets, and all of it planned, I doubt they'll be taking advice on how to proceed.

The Arabs have only themselves to blame. They had the chance to have a homeland in Palestine some 75 years ago,which they turned down. Yes,it would have meant many of them initially living under Israeli rule,but they had the possibility to re-settle those people in their own land,with their own kind, over time,and build from there in very furtile ground. Jerusalem would have been designated a multi-cultural City,available for all. They scorned it,the British left as per the UN agreement,the Jews took over with their American backing.....and they've been trying to recover ever since.They're not united in their approach,they're being influenced in the main by both Saudi and Iran,who don't see eye to eye and who come from different directions anyway...they're in a mess. For whatever reason,Hamas has decided to undertake an action now,which will more than likely lead to even more misery being heaped upon the Palestinian people,and postpone even further their likelihood of getting themselves a separate state in their homeland.
Did not hamas share power with the plo circa 2006? Then they killed the plo political leaders and took control of gaza? They are technically not the elected party but the Palestinians are powerless to resist.
My history's not that good mate....but,the Jews were always there,although in a minority. When the UN proposal collapsed,I think the Jews took the initiative and established Israel. I don't think the Arabs ever "gave" their land away.
Think they had elections a while ago which Hamas won. If the Palestinians could unite behind one policy and one leader,it would do them the world of good. Sadly,there doesn't seem much chance of that in recent times. Bit like Ireland,with the political parties in Dublin,up against the IRA.

But in the end it all boils down to the Muslim loathing of Jews. Nothing can change that, it is visceral, a tenet of their faith that Jews should be eradicated, and why the " Religion of Peace" has embarked on this latest holocaust.
It's not new. For over a hundred years Islam laid waste to much of Europe, enslaving, slaughtering and eviscerating Christians and Jews. It took Charles Martell at Tours to stop them.
They will never stop until they are stopped. They cleave to a medieval ideology will not compromise at all, which is why they often make such insular and unsuccessful immigrants, here and elsewhere.
