They’re just testing the air defences out. They’ve been doing that for decades. We are regularly escorting their jets away from our airspace.
I haven’t seen where the government said that, but if you say they did then I’ll concede the point. As for what I would do, I still think that the Rwanda scheme had merit. I have no data but I reckon in the long term it would have saved money as it would have acted as a deterrent to those wanting to come to the UK by illegal means. But I’m not a cabinet minister and my knowledge of international immigration law is a bit sketchy.
To be honest mate, travelling thousands of miles in the back of a lorry or drowning in the Channel isn't deterring people. Being able to leave Rwanda, by bus, train or the next flight home wouldn't deter people either imo. The traffickers would probably be rounding them up and setting off for Tunisia to start the whole thing off again. What puzzled me with it all was how impractical it was. Would Rwanda house, feed and support people for the rest of their lives ... ... no, what they'd do is pretend they would, take our money and just let people wander off to start the process again.
I would have liked to see the Rwanda scheme get off the ground but it was blocked at every turn by this current government. They belittled the idea and announced to the country that a proper plan was needed. Turns out that proper plan was ‘smash the gangs’ which has been a disaster. In the last week alone we’ve had over 1,000 arrive in a single day, over 600 arrive in a single day. It’s worse than it’s ever been with record numbers reported this year. Schemes similar to Rwanda have worked for other countries and it should have been trialled here. Farage has said to return the asylum seekers he’ll need to make deals with the countries they’re coming from and if they don’t comply, they’ll be hit with huge tariffs and financial sanctions. He’s also said he’s prepared to ignore the ECHR which should also make things a lot easier to remove these people.
I agree they would wander off and try again. However their goal is to get to the UK. Once there they become part of the grey economy and fade into the background. It’s a lot easier to do that from Northern France than central Africa and that, in my opinion, would be a deterrent for some.
These asylum seekers are paying up to 10 grand to get here. Usually from borrowing off all their family members. I doubt the vast majority could keep putting up that sort of money after a failed attempt. Nobody has still said why they’re paying that sort of money instead of hundreds of pounds to jump on a flight and claim asylum as soon as the plane lands at one of our airports.
The answer is simple mate, undercut the gangs and take their customers We know farmers, construction, NHS, hospitality, etc, are short of workers. If migrants are willing to pay huge sums to get here why not process them where they are, charge them £10k and put them on a cheap one way EasyJet flight. If they're genuine asylum seekers they'll only end up here by their own steam. Then employ them and allow them to pay taxes like everyone else ... ... chances are we'll end up taking them for nowt anyway. Farage's plan, to send them 'home' falls at the first hurdle if they arrive without paperwork which is what would happen.

I'm sure the deterrent was something like 1-2%, I.e. Rwanda would only take 200 refugees. It was never going to work as a deterrent in my eyes, but we will never know now.
Why can’t people accept this is a complex problem that doesn’t get solved with simplicity or single methods? This requires cooperation Let people work and earn to reduce crime Increase social housing inst re ad if letting people buy them and rent out for high cost Support better community relationships AND Check for those who are unsafe Work with neighbouring countries to reduce crossings Shouty three word slogans in your living room and painting roundabouts with pink paint definitely won’t sort it out

It was ridiculous from the start. What do the Rwandans do with those people, just keep them there until they die … … it’s a terrible situation but needs lots of work, not slogans and feet stamping.
We attacked countries around the globe, forced them to speak English, asked them to fight for Britain in conflicts around the world and gave them passports … … never mind, the rich got richer so it all worked out well
