I've loved the euphoria and atmosphere around this England side but the realisation has set in and quite frankly, we really have fluked our way to this stage of the tournament.

Croatia and Belgium (twice) have painfully outplayed us.

Trippier, Maguire and Pickford can leave with their heads held very high, one or two others can be satisfied, the rest have either been passengers or toilet.
There's no creativity and Southgate's married to this system that he's using.
Very few chances created in open play, no playmakers in the side and an over-reliance on set-pieces.
Sterling being relied upon and yet used wrong typifies it.

To be fair to the manager though, where's the English equivalent of Modric, Rakitic, De Bruyne or Silva?
There's no deep-lying midfielder who can run the game, nor a man further up the pitch looking to pick out a pass.
Where's the next Gazza or the new Hoddle?

It's really no surprise that Belgium are cruising in this one if you look at the tweets of the respective players after the semis. Belgium's players all spoke of mustering one final push to at least finish third, while England's players were all moping - and they've certainly played like their heads are down in this one (or in the sand, in the case of a certain passenger at club and international level whose name sounds like Baheem Curling...)
We must be watching a different match, if Toby wasnt having such a stellar match, England would be winning this. Belgium are doing it on the break or as per their goal, route 1.

‘Jones has probably seen enough of Hazard’

No - we’ve definitely seen too much of Jones!

The hope's got to be that Sancho or Foden push on. Those young teams should be the start of something better.....if they can get first team football.

I felt Shelvey should've gone when the side was announced. Dare I say it, could Wilshire have been of use? And although I've been massively critical of him this season, had Winks not been injured, he may well have been able to do a job.

As for the next Gazza/ Hoddle, once Super Jack's had a bit of time with Poch, he'll be lighting up that England side.

Foden may struggle for game time at Citeh but Sancho is set for a big season, that lad looks ****ing special. Already torn a few Bundesliga defenders a new arsehole in the short time he's been out there.

First read of that had me thinking that you were referring to Wilshere as Super Jack! <laugh>

Shelvey and Wilshite aren't ideal, by any means, but they'd have been more use than Welbeck and Jones.
Surely even Walcott had a better season than the Goon?

Mason Mount was just mentioned in the commentary and he looks very good.
Always looked a level above everyone in youth games, just had a decent season in Holland and might be getting loaned to Derby.
Probably never get a game for Chelsea, but even that might change if they're no longer spending big.
