There's no creativity and Southgate's married to this system that he's using. Very few chances created in open play, no playmakers in the side and an over-reliance on set-pieces. Sterling being relied upon and yet used wrong typifies it. To be fair to the manager though, where's the English equivalent of Modric, Rakitic, De Bruyne or Silva? There's no deep-lying midfielder who can run the game, nor a man further up the pitch looking to pick out a pass. Where's the next Gazza or the new Hoddle?

Mason Mount was just mentioned in the commentary and he looks very good. Always looked a level above everyone in youth games, just had a decent season in Holland and might be getting loaned to Derby. Probably never get a game for Chelsea, but even that might change if they're no longer spending big.
