Ronaldo should have at least had 2 more, and could've knocked USA out. RWAEB might not have liked it but that Ghana goal was important, I think. Had they not scored then Portugal's second would've got a totally different reaction as suddenly 2 goals in 10 minutes and they're through, and Ronaldo's picking the ball up and running back to half way determined, as it was he didn't even celebrate and just walked away. He's a great player but he's thrown a hump with the team and his attitude stank in all honesty.
Congrats to the US though and I'm happy for Klinsmann. It seems like football could be at a real turning point in the USA this World Cup so it's great to see them doing well from a neutral perspective too.
Did you place a bet on Portugal to go through? Ronaldo was lucky (for his single goal) that the Ghana keeper was a long lost relative of David James or had been coached by Fulop!
And the USA effed up a win against Portugal, YV. So a case of "shoulda, coulda, woulda" methinks.
The USA could not have done too much more. Portugal caused some of their own problems.

Hang on, what's this?

I can't find the newspaper story now so I'm sure someone will shoot all this down.....
About 2 years ago (?) a newspaper revealed that at least one Premier League English footballer had served a long ban (believed to be 12 months) after failing a drugs test. This ban was kept secret by the FA and Premier League for reasons they refused to say. Consequently, it was believed that the player was an England International. This ban coincided with a period when Jack Wilshere was out injured for....... 12 months. When he returned from injury, he was extremely impressive and Arsene Wenger stated that he had never seen a player return from a long-term injury so fit. They believed that it was impossible for him to remain that fit while also being injured so thought that he must have been in intensive training for that period and not actually injured......
No idea if true or not but there is a logic to it. And the FA and Premier League would be likely to protect what was the Great White Hope of the England team at that time (before it transpired he is actually a bit of a crock who is just as average as all other English players).
All allegedly of course..........![]()
What, no matches today
I've forgotten what life was like before the WC.
With Verts captaining Belgium last night, at the time we had three international captains at Spurs! That can't have happened too often to other clubs. Maybe a future trivia question?

Who besides Jan and Lloris? Did Eto'o hand the armband to Beni?
Come back, Jan! All is forgiven!
