And the USA effed up a win against Portugal, YV. So a case of "shoulda, coulda, woulda" methinks. The USA could not have done too much more. Portugal caused some of their own problems.
Did you place a bet on Portugal to go through? Ronaldo was lucky (for his single goal) that the Ghana keeper was a long lost relative of David James or had been coached by Fulop!
I have to say, seeing that goal I have to ask who had money on Ronaldo to score in that game. He laid the ball on a plate for him!
Oh I didn't mean to sound like I was saying they should've won or anything, just that they had the chances and whilst Ronaldo called his teammates average, he wasted a lot of good chances considering he's their star player. Stuck a fiver on them. Had a tenner of Germany/Portugal double which cancelled out all my losing bets on that round of betting. Currently got £230 off my £50 for the tournament so far but if Bentaleb scores tonight the beers are on me
Howard, Dempsey and Gonzalez are good players, but it took a masterful job by Klinsmann to squeeze them through. Jones has a stunning first touch. Straight into the underside of his chin. Beckermann managed to miss the ball entirely when a decent touch would have put him in clear on goal. Klinsmann doesn't have a lot to work with.
With Verts captaining Belgium last night, at the time we had three international captains at Spurs! That can't have happened too often to other clubs. Maybe a future trivia question?
I can't find the newspaper story now so I'm sure someone will shoot all this down..... About 2 years ago (?) a newspaper revealed that at least one Premier League English footballer had served a long ban (believed to be 12 months) after failing a drugs test. This ban was kept secret by the FA and Premier League for reasons they refused to say. Consequently, it was believed that the player was an England International. This ban coincided with a period when Jack Wilshere was out injured for....... 12 months. When he returned from injury, he was extremely impressive and Arsene Wenger stated that he had never seen a player return from a long-term injury so fit. They believed that it was impossible for him to remain that fit while also being injured so thought that he must have been in intensive training for that period and not actually injured...... No idea if true or not but there is a logic to it. And the FA and Premier League would be likely to protect what was the Great White Hope of the England team at that time (before it transpired he is actually a bit of a crock who is just as average as all other English players). All allegedly of course..........
Wouldn't be the first time clubs have used injuries as cover for long bans. Imo it should be public for all to know.
Oscar Tabaraz says he'll quit his two FIFA posts in protest at Suarez's punishment. When people agree with Sepp Blatter over your stance, that's the point you shut your trap - and agree that there's probably a valid reason anyone with self-respect is cheering Columbia today.
Some of the reaction to Suarez's punishment has been absolutely bizarre. He's being portrayed as some sort of victim of a conspiracy. No wonder he's not changed his ludicrous behaviour. People keep making excuses for him.
