Just a thought on the shall we lose just to get 2nd place, makes it easier kind of thing. Not one of the remaining teams would want to play us if we go on and whack Belgium say 2 or 3-0. Im not saying that we will but it all seems a bit defeatist to show that you are willing to lose, draw a game with more yellows etc in order to gain what some perceive as an easier passage. I don't for one moment think that we will win the cup, we have a chance, we're still in it, but which team out there really frightens you... Spain...? Uruguay..? Brazil...? France...?

I suppose with both managers saying that they are going to rest players, which would do my head in if I was in the team, then it just speaks of them plotting there way through a tournament and doing the best for their team in reality...

Who's to say zee Germans will go through...? Who's to say that Brazil will top their group..?

If you keep winning it's gonna take a good one to beat you... Just saying...

We complained to FIFA after Harry Kane was rugby tackled twice in the Tunisia game and we got no penalties from referees or VAR. Since then the referees seem to have been looking for that and awarding penalties.

I hope that the FA are watching this World Cup. They should tell referees here to give penalties for rugby tackles and shirt pulling. First week of the season there would be about ten penalties. Second week of the season they would all stop doing it. Just for good measure, they could book the offenders as well.

Indeed. Watching corners and free kicks being taken these days is like watching a line out - or a pub brawl for those of you who don't follow / like rugby union .

Why cant FIFA do the draw for the last 16 after all group games have been played? It will stop all this “better to finish 2nd” stuff etc. Don’t make it like the Champions League an all day of a thing. Half a hour tops, venues sorted and opponents. Winners of each group play runners up of one of the other 7 groups. Sorted.

Coming home on the train the Germans seemed very realistic - played crap, deserved exit was the general consensus.

Definitely so in my memories of World Cups and European Nations Championships since 1962. Players looked lethargic, without leadership and missed tons of good chances. I am in total lock down here in Auld Reekie!

Missus took it all in her stride, and told me to tell you not to jump, they are just not worth it! Have to give her credit, she said right from the start of the tournament that this team had no chance on the form they had been showing. I took no notice of her! Löw's team selection for this final game very much open to question, e.g. Mesut Özil? He's hardly playing well enough lately to be in a Kneippe (pub) team, AND leaving Leroy Sané completely out of the squad travelling to Russia, which really did not make sense at all.
