Maybe, maybe not. Certainly close. France? Belgium? Spain? A case for any, but the gist of my post was after all the fun and games, the biggest show in football comes down to four of the biggest/best teams.... can't really aske for more than that really.

Fifa has announced the shortlist for the 2014 Golden Ball prize. The 10 players on the list are:
    Angel Di Maria (ARG)
    Javier Mascherano (ARG)
    Lionel Messi (ARG)
    Mats Hummels (GER)
    Toni Kroos (GER)
    Phillip Lahm (GER)
    Thomas Muller (GER)
    James Rodriguez (COL)
    Neymar (BRA)
    Arjen Robben (NED)

Fifa has also announced the nominees for the Golden Glove competition, the list includes:
    Keylor Navas (COS)
    Manuel Neuer (GER)
    Sergio Romero (ARG)

The young player of the tournament is between:
    Memphis Depay (NED)
    Paul Pogba (FRA)
    Raphael Varane (FRA)

As usual, some debatable choices as well as some good ones. I guess that a lot of those players that had decent tournaments played for underdogs that went out early, however players such as Hummels have only played 4.5 games. I am surprised Pogba was picked after his altercations but there you go. The golden gloves is a bit odd with Romero over M'Boli and Ochoa. Any thoughts on this? Quite an open field this time.

Vlaar's missed penalty apparently rolled back and nearly went over the line whilst the goalkeeper was celebrating...it actually stopped on the line. However, it would have apparently counted if it had crossed the line as the last person to touch it was the GK. A lesson to be learnt for keepers...keep your eye on that ball. Shame it didn't go in as I like a bit of controversy.
