in the cold light of day it's no worse than having Tombola on a shirt.
If it means the difference between Europe or not (due to extra investment) I'd take Europe any day.
Personally I'll simply not buy the shirt as I have splendid back catalogue of old tops I unearthed again yesterday... all the home and away going back to 1992.
 
Wonga Arena ffs. If they give us £24 million over 3 years it will see us paying them back at least £48 million. surely we could have done better than this.
I for one will defo not be buying this strip as they clearly are one rip off company.
 
I hope everyone sticks to their word and doesn't buy the tops.

Wonga are ethically dodgy, and a really poor business partner from a reputational point of view, let alone the awful name.

I will not buy a toon shirt with Wonga on it, ever.

Apparently its just the shirts but I thought virgin were paying 10mill per season

Local politicians have urged him to reconsider associating the club with a firm they say leaves people vulnerable to spiralling debt. The leader of Newcastle City Council, Nick Forbes, has written to Mr Ashley outlining debt problems people in the city have had after using the website. The MP for Wansbeck, Ian Lavery, a lifelong Newcastle United fan, said he "never set foot in St James' Park again" if the deal went ahead.

Interesting,

but what I thought was interesting (or not for some) was that there are only 2 companies advertising
in the whole stadium
that's S***ts D****t and Virgin Money

where have all the other companies gone
has he alienated all would be advertising to suit himself
how much is being lost to pursue his brand
 
On Total Sport last night they said NUFC had released an official statement saying they were in discussions for a shirt only sponsorship deal but NOTHING had been agreed or signed.
 
I thnik maybe Fat Mike is getting the hang of this public relations malarkey.

No matter who gets the naming rights now, we'll all just be happy that the stadium name hasn't changed from SDA.

No small feat that.

The name hasn't changed from SJP to me, it'll always be that. However for others, I'm sure that SDA will be more agreeable than WONGA!

Clearly it will always be SJP.

Previously it was SJP and we were quietly fuming at the fact that its official name was SDA. Now I expect most are quietly relieved that its offcial name isn't the Wonga Bowl.
 
A shirt sponsor reflects onto a club, and WONGA screams tacky. It'll also put off other possible bigger sponsors because they won't want to be associated with WONGA either.

May be a good cash lump up front but the club will suffer financial loss in other ways e.g shirt sales, other potential sponsorship deals.
