Basically the way I see it. Is it’s a great chance at promotion. Probs the best we’ve had since coming up. We only needed 1-2 players. Personally to me, we need someone who’s more assured infront of goal brought in as I don’t believe Mayenda will offer that for us if Isidor gets an injury. That’s all I’m arsed about. Also we seem to have Poveda as competition for an inconsistent Roberts.

it’s clear to me we could really do with 2 players. RLB has said it himself too really

If the edwards deal is a permanent that’s the big challenge we have against the parachute payment clubs. Loan deals we can be competitive as the wages won’t be factored in but we won’t be able to match the permanent fees.
Yeah i'd be frustrated if we missed out on him to say Blackburn or Boro but them parachute payments are a cheat code.

One extra player doesn’t suddenly give us depth, nor does the failure to sign one immediately mean we are left short.

additions would be good, especially up front but it doesn’t represent a missed chance nor does it suddenly guarantee we aren’t getting promoted.
It’s a massive missed opportunity for me if we don’t mate that’s my personal opinion. I can’t alter my mindset to fit something I don’t believe right now. Still time to sort it though

Hence why I said the club keeps things quiet, we used to get rumours weeks before anything happened. Now it only seems to come out when deal is done or nearly done.

I suspect the club only allow 'leaks' if it's likely to benefit them.

For example, Brighton put in a £5m bid which could turn out to be an absolute bargain.

Then let's say Watson has suggested he'd be open to a move to Brighton and Sunderland accept the notion..

If Sunderland keep that quiet Brighton won't feel any need to increase the bid ...

... but if they allow that info to enter the mainstream media it could easily start an auction.

That's guesswork but there does seem to be a pattern as was shown with Stewart and Clarke.

If Sunderland are as good as it looks, in negotiations, there's been a massive shift since the likes of Quinn, Short, Donald, etc.

If indeed we were in for him. All we have is some twitter people suggesting we were after him,

Yeah of course. Defo fits what you’d think we’d be after tho. Left footed right winger for competition with Roberts.

Me mates just said Edwards was due to fly over from Cascais airport either yesterday or Thursday but cancelled last minute.

We've probably known since then
This was apparently who was going to be in my cousin’s place. But this. Only thing is that Parker and Edwards were at spurs together and the only reason he’s going there.

that and the wages he on..

We were reportedly interested in Cannon, Diaz and now Edwards who have all went to clubs with parachute payments. Frankly there's **** all we can do about that.

It's been forensically proven, over many years, that bribing players to come here is disastrous ...

... I can't believe so many people want us to keep repeating that process.

I absolutely don't want us to bring in three mercenaries, affect the incredible team spirit then fail to go up anyway.

The way some talk it's like signing these 'three players' will virtually guarantee us promotion.

It could mean we end up in the Championship with Simms x 3 ... on big wages, long contracts and no real interest in being here.

Maybe, but I assume the club are expecting Poveda to be Roberts’ competition so would be surprised if we are actively after a winger (not saying they wouldn’t take a punt on someone who became available)

They are, however we can sell players and use that money. Here lies the problem when fans think “We’re Sunderland were too big for this division we don’t have to sell our players to anyone” but then questioning why are we losing out on several big names linked with the club.. Parachute payments defo help but Leeds have sold £150m+ of players this season, Burnley over £100m.. that’s why they can afford to throw money back in.

Would we be a worse team if Jobe went for £30m and we signed Edwards for £8m and Akpom with a loan fee and obligation upon promotion? Absolutely not. And we’d have money in the bank still.

That’s the crux of it all. Every 2nd person on social media claims to have “sources” and starts linking us with every player under the sun. A lot of supporters read these links, assume they are true then start panicking that the club is being left behind or outbid by other clubs.
