The value of our players for selling does frankly depend on interest and offers in our other players. I love Dan Neil but I also think any bid of £25m for him from the top, top sides is going to be hard to reject, if he wants to make the move, and there is no sale of any other players on the cards. We need a big sale to kick on and we also need to show our players (and potential signings) the kind of moves we can get them if they come here. I'd rather it wasnt him mind (but I guess thats always the way when it comes to selling)

However if its £25m to somebody like Burnley they can feck off.

But if Liverpool for example come in, and offer us very good money and with future sell ons etc, I can see us accepting.

It all depends however on other sales. If Clarke gets £40m bids for example and we don't need to make another sale, then I'd be turning down £25m for Neil.

There's also something to be said for spacing out the player sales. Rather than selling a few in one go.

Basically its too nuanced to second guess the club.

25m from Liverpool spends the same as 25m from Burnley. I get the point you are making the lad might want to go to Liverpool more but the club shouldn't accept less because of that!

I just mean its nuanced. Completely agree £25m is £25m. But a move to Liverpool is different to a move to Burnley - and it will affect both Neil's morale and the morale of other players if we're seen to be blocking moves to the top clubs. But only if Neil wants to make the move, which lets face it is more likely if its Liverpool rather than Burnley. Which is my other point.

No I get what you are saying but I think the money we accept should be exactly the same regardless of the level of club bidding and if the player is pushing for the move.

If 25m is a no from Burnley it should be a no from Liverpool. Only difference should be is if the player wants a move we should go back to Liverool and tell them what the figure is we would accept and let the player know we are working to get the move done for him but we won't sell him lower than we value him just because it's a good move for him!

Why, just why, would any of our lads want to go to Burnley ?

I would say any January sale of a player like Clarke or Neil can only be done with premium on the price. It is a terrible time to buy, which is why the top end teams rarely do it. I think we will be tested next summer, but not in Jan. The way clubs work these days will be to let players know to sit tight. For example, if say Villa fancy Clarke and they see Palace sniffing around they will make sure Clarke knows if he sits tight they will be in for him in the summer.

The grass isn't always greener as JC found out when he moved to Spurs, but these days money talks and we have to assume players will move on, just like LND did, remember him...he came on as sub last 10 minutes yesterday, so seems on his way back.
Don't really like shopping in the January window but we'll have to wait and see.

Always thought it unlikely Man Utd would loan him out in the Championship again. A PL loan makes far more sense

Yep, I he gets his fitness back, he's shown enough to get PL games.

Mind, considering the almost continuously useless Antony is before him at Utd, he should be getting a game for them when he gets fit.

Hadn't noticed Stewart was back. That's a long time out mind.

I’d snap your hand off for £25m for Neil. That money would be what we need to get promoted at the first time of asking imo.

£25m for Clarke is a different story because spurs have a big sell on clause.

What you mean? Not on loan either? Whats Tag's relationship on it? Is he intending on giving him a chance? If hes not im lost with the relevance of Tag

No one has a clue what's happening at Man Utd, not Tag or anyone else. No one even knows who will own the club next week or who'll be managing.

Bob can post whatever he likes because he can always say 'something changed' ...

... I can just as easily claim we've already agreed a permanent deal, or loan, then say it's changed.

We all love players who come here on loan, and try, but I don't see anyone pining for Gelhardt, Doyle or Sanderson who, judging from yesterday, isn't very good and needs a haircut.
