This seems like very odd phrasing. Almost as if it’s preparing the fans for fewer signings than hoped.

But the point that we have too many senior players seems valid. Modern managers don't like a massive squad, they want to keep players involved, motivated and sharp which is difficult if you have too many of them. Guardiola famously likes a small squad, and Rosenior and Selles have both talked about it here. Presumably Walter wanted a bigger squad which is why we bloated it so much in the summer. That's just another way in which we set ourselves back in the summer, undoing the principles we'd previously established only to go back to them again now a few months later.

Everyone gets the option to name 25 over 21 players in the squad, but it doesn't mean much. Often it's young players who are over 21 but still aren't senior players. I don't think Rosenior actually did name the full 25 last season, but certainly when you look at the squad there were far fewer options. We had 2 senior keepers and now have 3, we had 3 senior centre backs and now have 4, we had 6 centre mids/number 10s and now have 7, we had 2 out and out wingers and now have 7(!), we had 2 strikers and now have 3. It's a miles bigger squad this season.

We had three keepers last season
So wrong
We had more strikers also
 
I suspect we'll see pretty much all our loanees go back; Rushworth, Burns and possibly Bedia? Vaughan, Jarvis and Longman need to find homes, at least on loan. Sinik needs to GTFO.

Even if they all go, we probably need another 5 coming in to give us a chance, not really slimming the squad by all that much.

Suspect you’re correct aside from Rushworth. Everything recently seems to be he’s going to get a run
 
If rushworth is fit, he starts. No place for sentiment in our position. The keeper ain't the problem, but you don't pass on an upgrade.

We don't wait for a pandur mistake. Get rushworth in ASAP.

I was comparing to this time last year. We signed a few more in January and let some go, so the numbers will all be slightly different but it's not going to make up the difference. 20 this time last season vs 28 now. We're talking about black and white numbers so it really can't be much of an argument.

Rushworth will get his chance.

Club website lists 32 in the first team squad, with a further 3 out on loan, but of those Cartwright, TLT, Smith, Vaughan, Jarvis, Longman and Simon's were out on loan last season.

I understand the 2 young keepers were injured so couldn't go out, and Jarvis was recalled due to injuries in august but I don't understand why the likes of Smith and Vaughan weren't sent out on loan this summer.
