See TalkShite are linking us to be interested in Will Still from Lens?
The 3 are Rohl, Rosenior and one unknown.Find it interesting the quote the other day that we had a list of 10 potential managers and now have whittled that down. And Spors has spoken to a number of candidates. Given the time of the season I’d be surprised if anyone he has spoken to is in a job as most teams’ season didn’t finish in October like ours. Managers like Lampard, Rohl and Rosenior I’d be very surprised if they had spoken to Spors given that their teams are very much still playing for something this season. If any of them had chatted to Spors at this point I’d actually put that as a negative against them tbh
So that leaves managers out of work really as the only ones Spors would’ve realistically talked to. Wagner probably one as his name has been bandied about and seems a bit random if there wasn’t any truth to it, maybe Cooper. Not sure who else is out of work, that Danish guy we were linked to before Juric? Hjulmand?

That really depends what "spoken to" means. Technically I spoke to someone about a job two weeks ago but it was a maybe 20 minute phone call where we had a few minutes of small talk before he asked if I'd be interested in a role and I said no, not at the moment.Find it interesting the quote the other day that we had a list of 10 potential managers and now have whittled that down. Possibly nothing. My point is more that "speaking to" someone doesn't necessarily mean they had a long, in-depth discussion about the job or anything approaching a full interview that might distract them from their current job. It may just be him checking whether people are theoretically interested in taking the job.True but what would Rohl/Rosenior have to chat with Spors about apart from a job? He might be mates with Rohl I suppose as they loosely worked together previously
Leipzig seem to be creating a shortlist right now. They're also targeting Fabregas according to the same journo who linked them with Rohl. As for Leicester, not sure why they would appeal to him over us.Starting to have a gut feeling that Rohl will not be our manager next season. Rumours of Leipzig, Leicester etc being interested is either true or being used as a “Southampton, make a decision “ tactic?
So I’ve read quite a bit about Will Still, and the more I think about it, it does become quite clear that he would fit into Spors’ way of playing.
Likes to play an attacking 4-3-3 formation though teams are comfortable in a 4-2-3-1.
Loves the counter press, and aggressive style of winning the ball back, putting his teams at the top for tackles and interceptions etc.
Happy to play out from the back through CB’s if the opposing team are not pressing, but won’t be Russball and commit suicide.
Few rumours in France saying there is a strong possibility of Still coming to Southampton, with Lens keen for him to stay after stabilising the team after big departures like Khusanov, Wahi, Samba and Danso etc.
Lens are playing tonight, and may have a watch as nothing else on, sad I know![]()
I doubt it's exactly like that. I think it's more likely that if a club has a preferred style of play they only approach/interview managers who generally play that way.Serious question .
Is it usual for a Manager to join a club agreeing to play to their style ?
I think we will dip out in Rohl and just feel his future is with a far bigger club than Saints. If Klopp rates him , i feel that he will want to step up to a level above Saints.
I love France and probably know it better than UK. I have seen a few matches over in France during previous holidays and think that the matches i have watched with smaller teams like Auxerre and Troyes have been seriously lacking in quality. The level of these clubs is akin to lower championship / top of League one. We may recognise the names of their teams yet i think we over estimate the quality of the French league. This us why i am concerned about Will Still. I have heard of his club but feel his appointment would be truly inspired if was proved that he could get a team promoted to the PL. I am a little bit underwhelmed. It would be like unearthing the next Graham Potter .
Not sure I'd be underwhelmed if we unearthed someone at Potter's level. He's done alright...
(Still isn't exactly unheard of either. Learned his trade on FM!)
That's a bit of an urban legend that follows him around. He worked his way up through the usual route of doing analysis and assistant managing before getting a very lucky break and taking over a management position early on. He came out and said he'd played a lot of FM and it turned into a story that it was his main qualification.
He's most famous for not having his pro licence and paying a fine every game he was inn charge. I'm assuming that he's got the badges now?
