Gus Poyet has backed newest signing Will Buckley to take the chance to shine in the Barclays Premier League spotlight.
The pacy 24-year-old completed a move from Brighton on Thursday, penning a three-year contract with Sunderland, who have paid an undisclosed fee to acquire him.
And the Uruguayan says the young star will be hungry to carry his success into the top flight having already played almost 200 career games in the Football League, and 220 overall.
“This is a time for Will to produce at the highest level,” Poyet told safc.com. “He's excited to join us and to start playing as soon as possible in the Barclays Premier League.
“Will is a player with something that we've been missing for a while – pace.
“He is very direct, and can create things with speed and by going past people. He can take you up the pitch on his own.
“Will can play anywhere across the front three and is a great addition for us.”
Poyet added: “I know Will well. From the first day he arrived at Brighton to the last day when we left, he kept improving and doing things better.
“He's always confident he'll create something for the team and will be very important for us.”

He's a mag... But in the sense that, alongside Sunderland, I supported Utd when Cantona was there and I was a kid...
