I spent the afternoon playing Wembley with my 9 year old son and his mates , scored an absolute pearler 30 yard curling shot top corner as a rush goalie . I forgot how fun football was. The keeper was 10 years old .
I'm going to be playing 5 a side for the first time in 15 years tomorrow. I was rubbish back then so god knows what an extra stone and a decade of little exercise has turned me into. I could yet be offered a gig as an Ipswich Town midfield playmaker.
Churchill was the perfect prime minister to unite the country during the second world war, especially when a large section of his party favored appeasement and peace deals. The fact that he fought on in the face of that is to his infinite credit. As a peacetime prime minister his two biggest achievements were to recognise and not repeal the achievements of the Attlee government and to bring through Macmillan. If anyone starts a debate of Thatcher its going to go on for another thousand posts so I'm going to leave that alone. For what its worth in suggesting Attlee as or greatest ever prime minister. I don't think we have anyone who matches him for laying achievement
You are performing so many u turns that I have now completely lost track! Blair and Ed Milliband are polar opposites in their approach to politics and ideology! So if you think that Blair was the Best PM we ever had (which is complete bollux) and he was a right wing capitalist who worshipped the City, how then can you support Millibands approach which was ultra left wing?
JWM, Why not just give up mate? Your understanding,or rather lack of,of politics is quite overwhelming. Miliiband is what we had to work with. I opposed his selection as leader,I opposed Brown taking over from Blair. I will no doubt be opposed to the new leader too. My choice is Dan Jarvis. You won't have heard of him JWM because you are a bar room politician and binman, nothing more, nothing less.
Jarvis has ruled himself out. I just hope they don't go for the siren song of Umunna (I can just see the chuckle vision headlines now). Labour needs to give some serious thought about what it exists for. If the answer is simply to get power then I suspect that Umunna would probably be the candidate most likely to win a general election. If they want a party that represents working people and provides a clear alternative to the tories then I don't think he will take them in that direction
You do realise that there is far more right wing media propaganda than left?! A certain disgusting Australian owns an unsettling percent of the media outlets in this country and he is so far to the right he's in the opposite lanes hard shoulder! Every time someone presents you with facts your answer is "Coming from x. That's bound to be unbiased" yet you are the most biased poster on here. Everyone else, whether they are tory, labour. left or right or what ever, they take on what others are saying and try to provide counter arguments using facts. Not you though, you just scoff and hiss and shoot anything that doesn't fit you're own narrow minded opinion down. You are the epitome of a cold, heartless tory bastard who thinks of nothing but himself and can't for one second fathom that not everyone is happy to plod along in the ****ty society we live in. So arrogant, so belligerent and so pointless to even attempt to talk to you in a reasonable manner. And apparently half the country thinks somewhere along your lines. That's a country I don't want to be involved in anymore. please log in to view this image This is the Singapore Pledge, but change Singapore to Earth and Nation to world and I believe this is the pledge that all of us should be working towards. Not one of greed and defining people by their wealth or where they happened to be born. One of equality and prosperity for all. Something that will never be achieved as long as the likes of you are still around.
That's a pretty accurate critique of JWM and working class Tories in general. I have found it in business too with people who have made a shilling and think that makes them better than their fellow citizens. When I go to the bank in Lowestoft and I see those people who inhabit the back streets of the town and live on benefits I must admit that I too have negative thoughts about them. But if I think logically the way to solve this problem is not social exclusion but the exact opposite. I know that 1950 and myself are probably what JWM regards as "Champagne Socialists". It's not an accurate term but I have done ok in business and have all the trappings of middle class life. But why should that mean that we want to exclude others from sharing in our success? I think that makes no sense whatsoever either from their perspective or ours. We have ended up with an underclass that is a problem to themselves and to the rest of society and you can trace the nascence of this class right back to about 1980. I wonder how it started! The Tories are crowing about their success. Let's just wait and see how it all pans out. There may be trouble ahead.
I think there will be 'trouble ahead' especially from the 'wicked witch of the north' aka Nicola Sturgeon!!!!
