Aber, I have answered your questions regarding some armed forces members not supporting the government past and present.
Yes current serving members have and are protecting British people at home. The reason for this thread points to it with regard to the spying issue for which you created the thread. If you do not think this is protecting you that's your opinion.
FYI, I was also in Bosnia for 3 years with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and also saw first hand the atrocities carried out by the warring factions. UNPROFOR were not there as a figting force they were there to monitor the situation nothing more. So perhaps you could qualify your comments regarding our forces commiting atrocities there.

Make no mistake the extreme Islamist wants you dead just as much as the armed forces. In their eyes all non believers are to be killed as they do not believe in allah. So asking them to kill our troops is deplorable based on and that does not take into account your blinkered view. All Islamists want an Islamic state, that is the goal of all Islam they just have different views on how to acheive their goal.
With regard to WMD I agree there were none and think Bush and Blair should stand trial. Saddam Hussain was tried and found guilty by the Iraqi people not the UN. Agsin I refer to the part of my post above regarding dissaffected people.

I can't comment on the US budget but where the UK is concerned successive governments have followed the US lead based on a perceived "special" relationship and a miss-placed sense of loyalty. The UK is the USAs lapdog.
With regard to the UK armed forces succesive governments have reduced the armed forces so much that any budget in the grand scheme of things will be immaterial.

Syria is a melting pot and dare I say it (at this moment in time) Assad retaining power would be the best case scenario as he is the lesser of all evils. However, what is happening in Egypt now may indirectly help Syria where the people who elected the Islamist leader quickly saw the writing on the wall.
I do not understand Arabic so can't tell if this is real or a propoganda filmed report but lots of good points raised. What especially resonated with me was the Islamists enticing folk into the mosque with promises of food and money. I saw this first hand in Bosnia during the war and although it helped folk the cost was high.

Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States. Check it out, a little too clean for my liking; along the lines of World at War, but very interesting all the same.
