Having faith and hope mate. Certain precautions need to be taken though if it's to be maintained.
Never had that problem as I hold onto hope of survival until it is mathematically impossible to survive.
That is the only time I'm resigned to relegation.
Doesn't make me deluded just makes me a supporter hoping for the best for his team.

I've pretty much resigned myself.
If we get out of it I'll be over the moon. If we don't it's as expected.
Those expecting to stay up can have expectations met or utter heartbreak.

Being resigned to relegation is easier.
However, proper fans (my opinion) will always hold onto the hope that their team will come through and thereby give them the best support they can.

Yep but I'm getting over it as we speak and hoping we win the league next year!
I am usually very optimistic and I am certainly down at the minute but like all fans you cling to the hope that miracles occur and we can escape.
Beating the mags will give us a massive confidence booster, beating Hull after that and most of us will be almost orgasmic with belief that we can survive. Thats IF we get the 6 points.

For 50 years all I have had for SAFC is hope.
Well that and a FA Cup, that I started out hoping we could have a good run in.
When we got to the final I knew deep in my bones that we would win.
It's Heartache for me, not heartbreak, Everytime we've been relegated I've fallen deeper in love with our gorgeous club, The heartache gets harder every time, agonising, but all it does is make me realise that it's because I've fallen deeper in love with Sunderland AFC. Within a week I'm excited at how we're going to kick the Championship's arse.
My heartache tells me I still feel the love and i'll tell you what? it's great comfort.

It's the hope that kills you, I think realistically we now expect to be relegated. Hope that it's not embarrassing. However deep at the back of the mind is a little irrepressible voice saying "if we win the next one". Reality says thus far we've managed 1 point from 8 games and we leak goals for fun

Pretty much sums my thoughts up mate, 3 points on sunday and hope will be restored although the glimmer is in the distance anyway it would shine a bit brighter.
If the worst were to happen then it would almost fade to grey although it still wouldnt be out
My biggest hope is that some of these lads playing for us atm never pull on a Sunderland shirt again & Poyet gives these new lads who havn't had a chance yet or some of the younguns a chance.
Its far easier for me to think Poyet will turn this round because the alternative to him failing to do so is too desperate to contemplate.
One game at a time though (or one half at a time would be more relative to our play currently) and we do need to win a game soon. If we fail to beat the mags or Bruce's mob or worse still get beat off both, then it will be really difficult to think we can save this season tbh.
Even the most optimistic will surely struggle to condone survival talk if we have lost 9 out of the first 10 games (8 off the belt as well) and have only 1 point from the opening 30 available.
