Ok, sarcasm aside, I think I said around 16th initially, but as I know literally nothing about the players we’ve signed, I’ll have to stick with that.

It's been on my mind this weekend that there's a big question around our expectations now. The talk has always been about playoffs and promotion but it seems most fans now don't expect any of that and Baz on the 1904 club is saying that we're nowhere near that, which is possibly right.
But I wonder if we really are on board with that lower expectation? Personally I'll be a bit gutted to see us not competing in the promotion picture, even though I don't disagree with the people saying that we're not in a great position for it. We talk a lot about entertainment and I suspect many people would say they'd take a mid-table finish or maybe even worse if it's entertaining. But then I'm not sure what that really looks like. Objectively, finishing mid-table means having more defeats and less wins than last season. I struggle to imagine how that won't be even more frustrating than last season was. Do many teams repeatedly win big one week and lose big the next, is that realistic? Even if it is, are we that sort of side? Currently we look more like having the same sort of limitations we've had for a few years now; low goalscoring and low chance creation, which means tight games which we might nick at times and have nicked from us at other times. If that's the case again, but the results overall are worse, then it could become a very frustrating season.

8th for me this year. Which is a fair and reasonable due to the amount of change at the club.

It also begs the question of why bring in players like Rushworth for the short term if the club's ambition isn't to achieve something this season.
Mid table for me. Which I would be ok with but I wouldn’t put money on it. The poor start with young kids could manifest into a season long struggle. Or Walt steadies the ship and then we have a 2024esq winter transfer window with a push for playoffs.

The club's ambition is clearly to achieve something this season ffs.
The fact that most fans don't think they will, doesn't change the fact that the club clearly think they've done enough to be competitive this season.
Sorry I misread PLT's post, I thought he was saying the club's expectations were lower but he meant the 1904 club.
I’d argue it’s an incredibly unfair expectation on Walter by those higher than him if they expect play-offs at a minimum this season. I wasn’t Rosenior’s biggest fan but I’d be saying the same thing if he was still here.
The board have been negligent this summer regarding transfers. Yes, we’ve signed players and they have signed some talented ones but to conduct most of your business in mid-to-late August with a mad rush on deadline day and still coming out of it with pieces missing despite the huge rebuild required is shoddy.
I'd have taken 21st at the start of the season and now I'd snap your hand off. The games we play poorly in we'll lose and the games we play alright in we'll draw or lose as we'll nearly always concede one and won't score enough goals to dig us out of the holes we find ourselves in.
Fair shout Bruce...But has pointed out by 'the Orange' the chances of Acun walking without getting his dough back to the last cent is about as likely as City getting automatic or a top six finish..Maybe a local consortium might be interested, led by say for argument sake Nick Barmby might be plausible, but again maybe unlikely.Well Acun will sell it cheap, just to get rid, so it could be an absolute nobody who owns his own van.

4 games into the season and many have already written this season off. The modern way of wanting instant satisfaction and any thing less than perfection is a disaster, apocalyptic, crisis, OMG.

Correct...Although I didn't attend the Q&A someone who did told me that Acun said 'don't judge the outcome of the season on the first month returns'.

As of today haven't got a clue where we'll finish. Given the churn of players this window, whilst I believe we've put ourselves in a much better position in terms of permanent signings as opposed to loans, so stronger foundation to work with, without a proven striker think we'll come up short but well clear of any problems down the bottom.
I feel we'll all have a much better understanding post this and the next international break, Tim's certainly got his work cut out.
So far we've had 3 games that we coulda shoulda woulda won and 1 that we were expected to lose (8/1 with the bookies).
We coulda beaten Bristol but they had a temerity to score first (but then kindly gifted us an equaliser).
We shoulda beaten Plymouth but looked impotent infront of goal until Coyle went on his freedom run.
We woulda beaten Millwall except for the obvious lack of goals.
Against Leeds it wouldn't have been a surprise at half time if we'd nicked it 1-0 or held out for a draw. What didn't look likely however was getting a result once they'd scored.
We've played some ok stuff - I'm not a massive fan of twatting about at the back but Walter's twatting about looks more productive than Rosie's twatting about - and there's been glimpses that if things click we could attack with some purpose.
However, the big question remains. Across all 4 games we've simply not looked like scoring for fun (or even for intermittent enjoyment). We didn't manage to sign a dynamic goalscorer so how do we set up in order to have a chance of scoring the 2 to 3 goals a game we obviously need (and, let's face it, have been promised)?

This is one of the major problems with us since Acun took over.
I saw someone say something about it yesterday, or Saturday.
Acun has gone on about the striker we’re signing & then we’ve ended up signing a loan player, or a young unknown, for maybe a million. Yet Acun keeps saying he wants a proven player, he’s prepared to spend big, etc. he get’s people riled up & believing him, this is what he needs to stop doing & just lower the expectations. Stop the bullshit that we’re bidding £10 million for Delap, even if we are, stop saying we’re bidding x amount for a player, then it falls through.
On a final note about strikers, it came up in my Facebook memories yesterday, that 10 years ago we signed Abel Hernandez.

We’ll be nowhere the play offs this season which I’m completely okay with as we’re undergoing a big rebuild. I just hope Acun gives Walter the time.
