Aged 29. Former football genius.

Rarely play anymore, fitness is terrible, hence reliving my glory days in the form of this message.

Nice thread chap!

Similar thing happened to me. It was around my late twenties that I started to do other sports MOST of the time, rather than football. Try playing 5-a-side if you can join a team. Your natural fitness should be still around, it just needs picking up off the floor and given a bit of a talking to. At 29, you could either turn to middle age quite quickly or extend your youth into your 40's. Don't turn to mush. I chose swimming and sailing, btw.

Crikey, didn't realised it was different across the country.

It's generally £18 for U11/12 football. Then £23 up to 16's and onwards which is £30 all the way up to vets which is £25.

I was also getting £20 a game last year for turning up for some U10's mini-soccer, as the parents all wanted to chip in £2 each as they could never get a ref.

Yeah we get mugged off in Aaaampshire. Oh well you can't do it for the money, as they always tell us.

Thanks for the advice. It went wrong for me when I had to move to Bristol. my work lot are more into cricket and rugby so I kinda lost my way. Just play darts and pool now, the smoking does not help (started at 25). I still look physically fit, just the legs turned to jelly when I have a kick about.

I think you've given me a renewed optimism to find a team in dirty Bristol. The missus will probably thank me for giving her some Saturday free time!

Yeah "You're meant to do it for enjoyment, not just £'s"

Fair enough I do enjoy it most of the time, but I enjoy it much more when there is cash in my hand after the game!

Yeah, I know how things can happen. even a small change in circumstances can have repercussions, and moving city is a biggie. I moved from the UK to NZ, though I've been back for 20 years. They didn't play football in NZ anything like as readily as I wanted, and although I played Rugby Union for a while in school, there was no way I was going to take it up as an adult with Kiwis as my teachers. That way lies hell..! ;)

Must have been a major shock to the system switching to NZ. You dodged a bullet as an Englishman considering playing RU in NZ. Good choice.

I should not really complain about Bristol. They play footie, I just need to get off my behind and find a team. I wear my saints shirt into my office every Friday. So proud of my roots!

Nothing wrong with Bristol. Good maritime city [although that's no seal], GWR, The SS Great Britain [sorry, I like boats and ships] and you've got Bath and Swindon down the road. OK, I should qualify that. Bath is unquestionably a lovely town, architecturely, and there's Bath City FC too, where our own Jason Dodd came from. Saying Swindon was just so I could mention that fact that favourite band XTC came from there [I'm listening to an XTC album right at this moment].

Yeah it was a near thing in NZ with the Rugger. But the Sailing was superb.

I have been a fullback since day 1, normally a right footed leftback (it just seems to work), then after 16 I moved into the centre, purely because im tall and slow. Centreback is probably my best position, im good in the air and can read the game fairly well, plus i dont get skinned by wingers. Recently i have had a few flurrys up front, i have always been a regular scorer from corners and balls into the box from defence, the manager decided to try me up front, and although im not kevin davis, it seems to be working out ok; ill never be a prolific scorer as my only asset is heading ability, but im enjoying the freedom of playing up front at the moment!
