The issue for me was that without any kind of 'board rules' for you to follow, allied to the fact that they wouldn't discuss deletions and banning meant that at times you never really knew what was 'too much'.

So then people start to 'fill in the gaps' themselves of what they think is happening.

And if you don't what what's not allowed until it's deleted, and different mods appear to have different definitions of what's not allowed, you then look at the board and think 'WTF? He got a ban for that but look this personal ****e deliberately goading the same people over and over again' and its allowed.

Letting those kind of thoughts fester for years without explanation lead to an awful lot of disgruntled posters feeling hard done by.

That's a key thing like would be helpful to know the reason for the ban rather than just rules violation.

I still don't know what mine was for can only think for the Sima link

God only knows.

To be honest I'm sure a 'goody two shoes' that in over 15 years I've only had 1 wrist slap (for using a copywrite image as an avatar for half an hour) and two deleted posts - and they were last night!

I saw a thread where they said someone had been banned and I looked through the thread and could see nothing off topic, I asked what the ban was for, got no reply and this morning the two very polite posts I'd put up had been deleted.
No message.
No explanation.

Given what passed for acceptable on there over the years, it felt a bit bizarre to see a post like "has he? What was that for?" deemed unacceptable for a breach of the rules!

Probably getting rid of evidence as got banned purely for the reason that the mod didn't like them.

I coped my first ban last night for "rules violation"

Not quite sure what rules I violated though as I don't recall calling anyone names only asking people to pack in with the he says she says rubbish, for that I was banned from the takeover thread without a reason and my posts deleted, so I reported about 5 or 6 posts that were no worse than mine and the next thing is a message saying banned

It was your banning I asked about that lead to my innocuous posts being deleted.

Someone posted a 'hello' to you on the thread and mentioned your ban.

He / must have seen the deletions?

Come to think of it the post with the smilie waving at you must have been deleted too?

That's some serious 'housekeeping' going on.

Yet they have left certain posts up which I had been replying to. But no there is no favouritism on there

The worst thing they did to me was to delete 2 of 3 consecutive posts attacking me.

I responded to them, as they were all calling me a liar and insulting me.

I responded 'in kind' which was pretty nasty only to find the Mods had removed the 2 worst posts.

The 3rd response had agreed with the deleted 2 but looked mild in isolation.

It made it look like I'd kicked off, without good reason, which lead to a flood of people condemning me.

I fired back and was banned <doh>

We have rules:

Rule number 1 - what me and @Gordon Armstrong say goes
Rule number 2: If you disagree with rule number 1, see rule number 1

:)

We are fans first and mods second - only get involved if we have to

Is it just you two that moderate the forum or are there overall moderators as well that oversee every board?

Yeah we are the mods for the SAFC board and there are a few supers who we go to when someone has been a naughty boy/girl. We can request bans and view and action reports (something I've been lax with recently sorry @Gordon Armstrong ) but the work to ban people etc. is done by a higher power.

There's another mod. mind . . . . 'Bizarreknives' who pops in ocassionally (and handled a couple of reports only this morning, as it happens) :emoticon-0105-wink:

That's the team . . . . Marcus, Bizzy and me, and we take bribes so don't be shy :emoticon-0100-smile

Are you the same Gordon Armstrong imposter who used to post ower the road?

<confused>
