It's difficult to measure because it would need varying criteria to be filtered, but in the last year we've had about 600 signing up on top of our existing membership.Just out of curiosity GA how many members do we have now?
Thought I'd posted in here when I first came over nearly 18 months ago but can't see it so maybe not. Like a lot of others I came across for the takeover crack and because of the sad decline of a once great board over there, I've been on there since about 2002 but post little compared to what I used to.
Really enjoy it on here, more sensible/reasonable debate although a couple of times I thought it was going to descend into like over there but thankfully not, it's policed a lot more effectively over here.
As for me, first game as a bairn was about 69/70 but can't really remember much about it, started going properly 73/74 season (gloryhunter) when my older brother and his mates would take me. Strangely I could just have easily become a mag but thankfully it panned out this way.
My dad had a season ticket at Roker in the 50's but was one of those who would watch us one week and then Newcastle the next as his mate was a mag. So although he was a Sunderland fan he wanted all northeast teams to do well which was a common trait back then. So because of that he never pushed me down any particular path, team wise. My elder brother didn't like football but all his mates did so he'd go to the matches just to be 'in' with his mates. Thing is, some were Sunderland and some were mags so he ended up going to both like my dad. So when he started taking me he took me to Newcastle and then Roker. The differences were massive. At Newcastle his mates didn't want me there as they wanted to go in the Leazes with all the 'boot boys' but because I was only about 12 they had to take me in the Gallowgate End which was the safer of the two. So even though they beat Birmingham 3-0 I never really enjoyed it and never felt wanted. Then he took me to Roker and his mates couldn't have been more different, back of the Fulwell, up on their shoulders to make sure I could see, really looked after me and told me I better be there next game. Of course I begged my mam, dad an brother to be able to go the next time and I did and ended up at a couple more that season. At the end of the season though my brother and his mates left school and sort of went their own separate ways so I had to find a new mate to go to the matches with which I did and from 74/75 season to the present day I've never missed more than 2 or 3 games a season. SInce 78 I've been a regular at away games missing only the odd season for one reason or another (one was the year I was on strike and money was tight).
Nowadays my son goes to the matches with me and is as addicted as me, we do nearly all the pre-seasons as well and always have a laugh and have met some great lads along the way (and lasses).
So, that's about it, thanks for the crack on here.

I’ve come over from SMB and still visit the site. Sometimes it nice just to get a different perspective the knarsWelcome all of you 'newbies' from RTG
Your visit might be brief . . . . you might not like it here, but I/we hope that you enjoy our (mainly) friendly forum while you're here
It's nowhere near as busy as RTG, it's much more relaxed and you may become bored, but hopefully not and you stay and contribute long term, which in turn would enhance the overall enjoyment for us all
Anyway, you're all welcome![]()
