We really miss that type of flair player that has the ability to turn a nothing situation into something, which gives us the edge in close games. Mackie would also link up well with a player like that. Also bring back Clint Hill to shore up central defence. He might be a bit slow now, but is great in the air and likely would have done something to prevent Birmingham's 1st headed goal.
It seems that Tony Fernandes has suffered from yet another involuntary impulse with getting Warnock in. Four months ago ten or so members of the various QPR fans forums were summoned along to Loftus Road for an audience with Sir Les and CR. In that meeting said persons foretold of the great new era that we would be witnessing. Sir Les furnished us with the following spiel ( Amended for the sake of brevity. ) Out with the old and in with the new. Consolidation, build a holistic real club, local and current youth development talent given a chance. TF is taking a back seat and Ruben will have a more prominent role as SLF takes control of football matters etc etc. Yet now we have TF re-surfacing after a few months in the wilderness. He said this on instagram on Thursday. ''tonyfernandes_officialHarlington looking good. Boys working hard. Let's see. I do believe. But results speak. Going up is the world for me.'' Now it seems that this isn't actually the case as far as Tony Fernandes's big top circus is concerned. Especially judging by the above comment. What I don't understand is if he's suddenly adopted this stance - and I presume it's because Austin, Fer, Phillips and Sandro have had to stay, for whatever reason - he now wants/expects us to get promoted, why did he not try and do something about keeping us in the PL in January when we were better placed than we are now? No signings, no comment, sack Harry. We were doomed and he seemed to accept that? Yet now he expects us to go up! I hope he's got this right and I'm completely wrong but TF always seems to be five years behind the game. I don't actually think Chris Ramsey is in charge anymore or has been for a while. The appointment of Warnock is bizarre and so is all things QPR. The club s acting like a manic depressive. I'll just go along and take it in my stride, with no expectation. It's all a bit like fifteen years ago to me.
Mrs. Warnock will sure whip up a nice tea for Uncle Tony though, and perhaps young William can be brought into our junior ranks.
Well isn't this great, having Warnock back will ensure the forums' ratings continue to peak. The members will be in full voice for some time yet, although not all singing the same tune mind you. Never a dull moment on this board. Our magnificent club is the football equivalent of the television soap operas, Days of Our Lives and The Bold & The Beautiful, all rolled into one.
The QPR soap opera continues unabated and seemingly out of control. Whoever said clear strategy was the way forward, must still be locked in the cupboard under the boardroom. Looks like another season of watching the follies unfold before our eyes. Just when we, foolishly, relaxed at the beginning of the season and thought things were improving!!!
Can't believe tony had the cheek to ask Neil back in whatever role. From the outside this is hilarious but as a fan just shows that all that time since he got us promoted has just been a waste. I for one welcome Warnock. I haven't enjoyed watching us since he left really. He is what he is and I sincerely hope he takes over the reigns
I saw all of the home games that season and that isn't the football I was watching. The front 4 all interchanged positions and we played very fluid, attacking football. There was a mixture of long ball and shorter stuff, which is exactly how it should be imo. Warnock knows the Championship, Ramsey doesn't.
All very commendable, but you've lost interest already and we're half way up the Championship. Just imagine what could happen if we end up in League 1. You say that we must build;be patient etc and yet you've already admitted that you're not too bothered about QPR at the moment. Perhaps if there was a change of coach, we may start playing the type of football that would bring you back? It's all a fine line eh?
Forget consolidation, investment in youth, etc. They're nice sentiments - and worked well in the early 1990s as Manchester United proved, but with the globalisation of football and the vast sums of money in the English game; this type of philosophy only really works by exception - as Southampton have proven. What Manchester United did latterly and Southampton have done more recently is vacuum up pools and pools of talent over several years. The culmination of this is a cluster of very talented, young players with great desire and hunger, and with relatively little fear. Cluster is key word here. Take vast numbers and distil this down to a nucleus of 6-8 players all emerging at the same time. For all other clubs there may be perhaps one or two players that emerge through more prosaic scouting networks; but these generally get picked off by the bigger teams, ala Raheem Sterling, Joe Gomez, etc. Almost every other EPL team is therefore investing in proven talent - often from foreign leagues; as an insurance policy against relegation and the drop in income. This appears to be mirrored by the SBC - which in global terms sits around 6th in terms of money - below the EPL, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, etc - but above the likes of Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, etc in terms of wealth and ability to attract players. Tony Fernandes knows this well; and no doubt recognises that the likes of Leroy Fer, Tjaron Chery, Matt Phillips, Charlie Austin, Sandro Raniere, etc are exactly the sort of players needed to compete in the SBC. Note the absence of any defensive players here - hence I suspect the concerns. Drop out of the SBC and that's when the real problems start - as in the case of Wigan Athletic. So I welcome Neil Warnock coming in. I see this as a decisive move. We all want Chris Ramsey to do well, but his whole demeanour suggests that he's not quite got the leadership skills to turn his ideas into tangible success on the pitch. And ultimately it's a result driven business. (Just read Tony Fernandes' tweets related to Air Asia to see that he takes a similar approach to that business). Neil Warnock has proven he has the leadership skills before; and I for one would love to see Adel Taarabt back at Loftus Road - and believe me that's not inconceivable. But before then he has to bring in a couple of key leaders on the pitch. One in defence - ASAP - and another in the middle of the park. But absolutely crucially - removing all sentiment - he needs to take the arm band from Nedum Onuoha - he could do worse by handing it over to Charlie Austin on his return to the team. Set a new tone; instil a fresh drive - and provide some much needed leadership. Let's face it, every other manager since him has taken good players and with a couple of exceptions, seen them underperform. Whilst he had a few failures, Neil Warnock was the last manager in W12 who evidenced a reverse in that trend;e brought in players and got them to consistently play above their perceived talent.
I find all those ridiculing Warnock from their high ground of superior knowledge hilariously strange. Our Championship winning season was one of my most enjoyable seasons watching Rangers. Who cares if he's only done it once? Every coach who has achieved things were at a point in their career when they'd only won something once. It means nothing!
If Ramsey loses the next two home games and I can see Warnock back in the hot seat. Shaun Derry as his number 2 anyone?
I agree with Col that Warnock knows the Championship. He's a wily old fox, and CR is looking like a rabbit in headlights Warnock is in the paper today saying this present position at QPR is ideal, as at 66 he doesn't want all the stresses of full management. But I think he would take it, if it was offered. But I'm wondering whether TF believes his own reputation is at stake (after bringing in the Ramsey/ Sir Les combination) and hence the bolstering up by Warnock. I thought CR was bolstered by Sir Les. So Sir Les will bolster Neil, Neil will bolster Chris and Chris will... We tried it with Harry, bringing in Glenn Hoddle - and it didn't work CR should go, but I suspect Tony will cling to him
He hasn't only done it once, he did it with Notts County, Sheff Utd, us and was on his way with Palace before they went into Administration. But what he hasn't done is keep a team in the top division, ever. (Although we'll never know if he would have done with us). I agree he's great in this division but, again, it would be a short term fix. We'd need to change manager and playing style if we got promoted if we didn't want to come straight back down again.
