A sensible reply at last, but they alone can’t be seen as being responsible for us not making the play offs which was what the original suggestion was. Philogene and Tufan both missing penalties against Watford home and away were both pivotal, especially the latter. Most of the team made mistakes during the season which ultimately cost points, to suggest as the original post did that Allsop conceded “many soft goals” that cost us a play off place is plain wrong.
Allsop wasn’t very good at stopping shots close to his body. It was his Achilles heel. It’s not Pandur’s fault we’re ****. Overall he’s a good keeper. But it remains true that Allsop was a better distributor by some margin, and he probably helped our overall play more than he hindered it. The fact there was this bust-up over keepers with Acun and Rosie illustrates one of our biggest problems. Acun wanted us as his toy. To do it his way, with his players, not the manager’s way. Therefore (wrongly) McCann had to go. Therefore (wrongly) Rosie had to go. In both cases, what we got instead is far, far worse. First time, he acted quickly enough. This time, he hasn’t. Acun has done a lot of positive things. But his legacy will be a sour one unless he gets in a proper manager - eg Robins - and lets him manage how he wants. Maybe he’s waiting for Mowbray after Christmas.
So which of the “many soft goals” did he concede that were ultimately responsible for lost points that specifically cost us promotion? He wasn’t a great keeper, but the original post suggested he was the player responsible for us not being in the play offs.
If it was that obvious you’d be able to offer some examples. He let in a soft goal at home to Watford which cost us the game, although Philogene had already missed a penalty that might have won us the game. He conceded a soft goal away at Coventry, but we won the game. The suggestion was that him conceding soft goals was THE reason we didn’t make the play offs.
I wouldn’t necessarily argue with any of your points, Pandur is by far the better keeper overall, but blaming Allsop in the way that the OP did is wrong.
Yes it could, but the OP said “many soft goals conceded that cost us points”. He definitely conceded some soft goals but they didn’t always cost us points and there were plenty of errors from other players that cost us points. All I asked is for him to provide some facts to back up his statement.
West Brom at home, we conceded a corner when Morton needlessly miskicked a clearance and then Philogene lost his man at the corner. Philogene also lost his man at corners against Swansea and Stoke but of course that’s Allsopp fault too.
I’ve never said he didn’t concede some goals that might have been saved by someone better, nor did I say he didn’t concede any goals that cost us points. Most of the players made mistakes that ultimately cost us points, it happens in football. Look again at the statement in the OP.
