A lot of managers have clauses where if they don't meet certain criteria their pay out is a lot less. Moyes at United, for instance, was required to make top 4.
I don't think it would have bene unreasonable for Walter to have a 'top 12' clause in his contract possibly. I doubt he'd have a clause after 15 games though unless we were really clever and determined that this International break would be a chance to re-assess. I doubt Walter would accept that though.
End of the day as much as we spent money in the window (let's call it 25m to be ultra-conservative), when amortised over those signings, we've only 'spent' 6m in this reporting period (plus wages of course). Our wage bill in 22/23 was 22m, so even if somehow our wages have jumped to say, 30m this season (which I'd really struggle to believe), that means we're looking at maybe 40m spent with income of about 20m (before considering player sales). That means a 20m loss with Greaves sold for 15m means a 5m loss. We made about the same (5m loss) in 22/23, so unless we made a 20m loss last year and Tan completely trousered the Philogene, Tufan, Allsop etc. sales then we have at LEAST 5-10m up our sleeve.
Not wanting to turn this into another FFP thread, but I was deliberately very conservative there from both a cost and income perspective (I think our wage bill has decreased rather than increased, I think our transfer fees were a lot less than 25m, etc.) to highlight that we have headroom available if it's needed.
