Effective being the key word, he didn’t last that long at any club and was unemployed when we approached him.

The same “limited” Derby side that have lost one at home, controversially I add to Norwich, and are a point above us. We’ve got no right to walk into their place and hammer them.

The issue we’ve not had a complete game yet. Even against Cardiff we had defensive frailties for how attacking we were. Today I thought we put together good spells of building out from the back and broke their lines better than I’ve seen at most times. We got into dangerous areas and again faltered. Kamara’s chance in the first half with Jaden is 1-0 for example. 2 of our front 3 out there today are so raw and Belloumi is being marked out the game as a result.

The midfield looked better today as well first half. I think it lost a bit of control taking 2 of them off and I’ll be honest taking Slater off alongside Bedia meant we were crap in the press.

This squad isn’t as talented as last years… yet. it’s going to take time but if players like Hughes, Puerta and Balloumi can start being consistent we may have a chance.

Yeah. I'd give him two seasons to be honest. Unless there are clear signs of not being up to it.

Agree 100%..There are some Herberts on here who think its going to be a piece of piss...week in week out....I'm sure some of them do it for a laugh, and don't go to games. Probably both.

No I think it is for him to find a solution to it. I said the same about Rosenior and will about any manager.

When Warnock and Allardyce used to go into clubs and improve them, whatever it was they told their forwards used to work. Whatever average strikers they had would bang goals in for them. It seems like the managers we've had lack that ability a bit. They have all the tactics and are on top of every detail but they can't fill our attackers with confidence and get them to go out and be ruthless. That is one part of their job.

Yeah. For me, he’s doing an okay job. I also don’t buy into this ‘we need an experienced Chanpionship manager’ cliche. Rob Edwards and Mark Robins are experienced Championship managers and Luton and Coventry are doing far worse than us at this stage with much more settled squads.

I’m far more pissed off with individual players today than Walter. It remains to be seen if he’s the right man for the job but some of the players look like they’re stealing a living.

I’d have taken a point before the game and whilst it does feel like 2 points dropped I’m still ok with a point

I don't think we were that bad today - the defence is an improvement on last season, Drameh, Pandur and Hughes have already proved their worth - the only area of real concern is the 'centre forward' / 'target man' - so far Bedia and Pedro have been well below par and off the pace, Bedia might be able to hold the ball on occasions but his shooting and ball control are desperate - and as for Pedro, it can only get better as it can't get any worse, ( I wish I hadn't said that)

Rob Edwards is hardly experienced, this is something like his third season above League 2 level.

My biggest concern with Walter is something that was levelled at Rosie, that he wasn’t prepared to change his approach but that wasn’t entirely true and he did use different tactics and changed them sometimes during games.
I’ll agree that he has made us more solid at the back, although that also coincided with Hughes’ introduction but his set up is the same for every game and when he brings subs on they’re always like for like changes in the same role. He never seems to change the formation or tactics, irrespective of the score or the stage the game is at.

Which is two seasons more that Walter has had so far in English football.

Not quite sure the relevance? I was pointing out Edwards isn't an experienced manager by anyone's definition. Le Bris has had as much experience in England as Walter and is doing a touch better, as is the Hoff at Norwich.

I also don't think I've seen anyone call for an experienced Championship manager, they've just called for a better manager.

He brought on Pedro for Hughes and went two up top when we were chasing the game against Sunderland. I don't particularly rate the guy but that's as non-like-for-like as it comes.

I'm curious whether we'll see him make us more attacking and open again in response to this spell of being tighter but not creating enough. Will we see Hughes storming forward as an extra attacker half the time like McLoughlin was during the first few weeks of the season?

Aside from that, the focus surely has to be on improving the final ball and finishing. We should be doing everything possible to work on this. Psychology, plain old shooting and crossing practice in abundance, whatever else it takes. We cannot keep bemoaning this problem and waiting for it to fix itself as if it's just an unfortunate run. It is a serious, long-standing problem.

City can be as attacking as they like but the recruitment of the three duck eggs up front has been abysmal.
For all his faults Connelly was better than all the other three put together.

and so was Ohio - a striker has got to be our number one target in January - my bet is we sign another goalkeeper

Bedia's on loan and we shouldn't make it a permanent.

Pedro is a short term signing that makes Billy Sharp look worth a punt.

Burstow is ours on a long term contract and we paid a decent wedge for him.

He needs more game time than occasionally being brought on for 10 minutes and played out of position or he's never going to improve.

    • Ok, so he’s done it once, can you think of another occasion? I can’t, as with yesterday it’s usually always like for like swaps in the same position, hoping that just the change in personnel will make the difference when those players have probably had chances previously in the same position in the same game plan without any effect. For me it’s a major concern with Walter, much more so than it was with Rosie, although that bothered me at times too.

This is exactly it. Walter is focusing so much on two old strikers who are yet to show ****all. As opposed to a young man on a long contract that with game time wil get better. It's all backwards really. He should start against Portsmouth. But, we know he won't. The Bedia fetish is unmatched

Next game Portsmouth, and where are they in the league. I have a bad feeling about this.
